Age & Reign
30 YO? 42 YR?
Literal Rendering:
1, 2 Samuel (1) Saul Disobeys the Lord’s Command to Wait for Samuel (13:1–16a)
“Saul was the son of a year [= one year old] when he became king, and he ruled over Israel two years”
Acts 13:21 “21 “Then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.”
I’d suggest: age doesn’t matter… but the reign might…
Likely that Saul reigned 42 years! … 2 years before the Lord disqualified him as king… 40 ymore years serving
(2-7)
Geba
3 miles from Israel’s original capitol
Threat to the nation
WAS a city set aside for the Israelites… the priesthood (Josh 21)
So they wanted it
What we really want is a KING! He’ll solve ALL our problems!! NO!!!
(8-16)
7 Days
1 Samuel 10:8 “8 “And you shall go down before me to Gilgal; and behold, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice peace offerings. You shall wait seven days until I come to you and show you what you should do.””
I find it ironic… that Saul was trying to gain the Lord’s favor… via an act of disobedience.
There is no excuse, no line of defense to justify disobedience unto God
