Read Romans 5:1-11
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Since you have been Justified
Because we have been pronounced as righteous by our faith in Jesus Christ
We receive privileges
Membership has its privileges
As Paul makes his case he as already showed our need for a savior
Also how we are to be saved
Now we get to see what comes with that salvation
The rewards of Justification
The rewards of Justification
Read Romans 5:1-5
1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
What rewards come through our justification by faith
Peace with God through Jesus
Paul will say it later but all throughout the bible is this idea that in our unsaved state we are enemies of God
The unrighteous are the enemies
But we no longer have to be enemies rather we can be at peace with God
We need to understand that when paul says that no one is righteous
He is saying that no one has peace with God by trying to be righteous on their own
They need something more than their effort they need someone to be the propitiation
The sacrifice in their place to make them right before God
To help them have peace with God
and that some body is Jesus Christ
Because he lived his life in perfect oneness and obedience to the father
Because he lays his life down for us
We can have his righteousness imputed to us
He justifies us and gives us peace with God
We also obtain grace
Jesus didnt just die to justify us until we mess up again
HE died and rose again so that we are continually being justified
So God’s grace will continue to be poured out on us
So we can stand in grace
Knowing that all our past, present and future sins have been hung on the cross with christ and he has forgiven us for them
We receive this grace as a gift
Not so we can do whatever we want
But so God can be glorified
Look what he has done with my life
I was once now I’m
We have joy in our suffering
Hard times will come
But for the ones he has justified they can have joy through them
Because the worst thing that can happen to us is death
But death means we get to be with our creator
James will tell us these trial will produce steadfatsness
Paul says character
They both ellude to the fact that trials build our resolve and trust in the Lord
These trial produce hope
Hope that some day this life will be over
Hope that God will sustains us
etc…
We get hope
Not worldly hope
but confident hop
confident hope in God’s Love
The Message of Justification
The Message of Justification
Read Romans 5:6-8
6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
The message of Justification
That when we were weak
Unable to make our way back to God
God moved
The Christians story is this
Assurance of Salvation
Assurance of Salvation
Read Romans 5:9-11
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
Because we are covered by Jesus death
we will be covered even more than that from the wrath of god
there will be punishment but because Jesus Christ has covered us in his blood we are saved from that wrath
this is the Passover story
the worse curse came and the Jews used the blood of the lamb for the spirit to Passover
gods wrath and judgment would Passover those who were covered by the blood
