(Intro) - What we want is the enemy of what we REALLY want.
(Transition) Do our prayers reflect what we want or what we REALLY want?
(SLIDE) Break Me - The Dangerous Prayer
What does that mean? - Complete Surrender to the Process
Craig Groschel's story - God will Break You
A. W. Tozer - "It is doubtful God can bless a man greatly until he has hurt him deeply."
(SLIDE) Why would we pray that?
We (perhaps rightly) have fear around a prayer like that.
Humans are designed to seek comfort - our hardware wants things to be good.
Who wants to be "broken and poured out"? - Painful at best. Miserable at worst.
Surrender is a countercultural idea for us.
We've got BAGGAGE with "Karma" or with "Lightning Throwing God"
But what is at stake if we DON"T pray that? - What do we give up or leave on the table?
But I wonder if we might as well be praying "God don't let me grow. Don't let me get stronger. Don't allow me to trust you more."
(Transition) What if God has more in mind for us - BECAUSE he's a loving father with our best interest at heart?
(SLIDE) Because God is LOVING and GOOD
God is the ultimate loving parent.
God is a good coach - with dreams for us. Not to stay as we are but to grow into the children he wants us to be.
