Walk through commentary
6:2 — they follow him because they saw miraculous signs
6:14-15 — they misunderstand what the Messiah does
6:26 — now they can’t even come for the miracles, they just want the free bread
6:30 — “Jesus we’ll believe in you; just perform miracles for us first”
6:34 — They still don’t get it and they want their physical hunger to be satisfied. They’re so focused on the benefits they can get from Jesus that they can’t get the true benefit of spiritual satisfaction.
6:48-51 — Jesus himself is the one who satisfies, and you have to trust in his death.
6:52 — They get freaked out because they’re too hard-hearted to understand the metaphor
6:60 — Even the closer group of the crowd has troubling accepted that Jesus has come down from heaven, will die on their behalf, and that it demands their response
6:66 — They leave because it’s too tough
6:68-69 — Peter recognizes that Jesus alone can give eternal life and he alone is Lord

It’s in our nature to want the exciting parts of following Jesus.
any new building with great songs can get people to attend w/out substance
Easter-only folks who come for the clothes and family pic
Lipscomb YM majors not getting jobs in Middle TN
It’s inevitable that the exciting parts die down at some point.
end of the semester
sophomore slump
excitement of reading to Luke eventually turns into changing diapers
Following Jesus around is not the same as following Jesus as Lord.
sometimes we treat it like PRN work, but he’s the King
Jesus deserves our praise not because of the miracles, but because he’s our Master.
If you’re only follow Jesus for the free bread, you’ll never know what it means that he’s the “Bread of Life.”
the greatest growth and joy often come in the most mundane moments
