Many people need help.
Many people need help.
The needs of our community and the people in our lives is great. This can be overwhelming, trust me I know.
The prophets job: comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
The prophets job: comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.
This is a line I read from John Goldingay in his Jeremiah for Everyone commentary. Think about this statement for a minute. It is key for us to see this especially in our passage this morning, Jeremiah 30.
Fear was rampant.
Fear was rampant.
The nation of Israel is got in a cycle of fear. This may have been the experience of the “normal” jew. See verses 5-7.
Sin was out of control.

God comments that their state is awful in verses 12-15.
God disciplines His people.
God disciplines His people.
This is a great truth of Scripture and the reason, at least one of the many, why the Prophets were sent. Verse 11, 14-15.
The people must take responsibility.
The people must take responsibility.
This is where someone hits rock bottom, or at least close.

We need a healer.
Verse 17 is a great word of hope. Jesus is known as the Great Physician because of the works of living out this verse in his ministry. He is also the wonderful counselor. Let me make this clear: you are allowed to have Jesus and a counselor just like we need Jesus and a doctor!
The hope: Jesus who is God will be with us!
The hope: Jesus who is God will be with us!
Even when we hit rock bottom we are not alone. Jesus can be found in the depths of fear, sin, and despair. Jesus can be found because he loves us!
The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
