Introduction:

1. Pride’s Delusion (vv. 20-22)

Acts 12:20–22 CSB
20 Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. Together they presented themselves before him. After winning over Blastus, who was in charge of the king’s bedroom, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food from the king’s country. 21 On an appointed day, dressed in royal robes and seated on the throne, Herod delivered a speech to them. 22 The assembled people began to shout, “It’s the voice of a god and not of a man!”
So it seems in vv. 20 that Herod is having a temper tantrum. We have no idea why he was angry at the people of Tyre and Sidon, but the people of Tyre and Sidon sure needed Herod Agrippa. Since Tyre and Sidon were not agricultural hubs, they needed the kindness of Herod to make sure they were fed.
And obviously, they worked behind the scenes and became friends with Blastus, Herod’s bedroom keeper, and he arranges a meeting with Herod.
When that day came, you’ve got to picture the scene. Herod comes out in his “royal robes.” This would have been a robe made of pure silver threads. Elton John would have been envious.
Other sins are against God’s law, but pride is against God’s sovereignty.

2. Pride’s Demise (vv. 23)

Acts 12:23 CSB
23 At once an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give the glory to God, and he was eaten by worms and died.

3. Pride’s Delinquency (vv. 24-25)

Acts 12:24–25 CSB
24 But the word of God spread and multiplied. 25 After they had completed their relief mission, Barnabas and Saul returned to Jerusalem, taking along John who was called Mark.
Satan’s pride also one time tried to wreck God’s plan.
Isaiah 14:12–15 CSB
12 Shining morning star, how you have fallen from the heavens! You destroyer of nations, you have been cut down to the ground. 13 You said to yourself, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will set up my throne above the stars of God. I will sit on the mount of the gods’ assembly, in the remotest parts of the North. 14 I will ascend above the highest clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” 15 But you will be brought down to Sheol into the deepest regions of the Pit.
