Message #9
1 Samuel 17:20-30.
Central Idea: Sometimes our mission assignment changes based upon the needs of God’s people.
Guiding Question:
What are the similarities between this text and our lives?
We need to remain faithful to our mission. [v. 20a]
David was faithful to the mission given by his father, Jesse: to check on and to provide food for his brothers in battle.
We need to have awareness that our mission can change. [v. 20b-27]
David was faithful, but mid-mission, something happened that instantly changed his direction.
Jeff Iorg: Three callings from Is the Lord Calling Me? – ministry assignment changes.
We need to know that we will be met with resistance in our calling. [vv. 28-30]
David was confronted by his brother with resistance.
David did not let the resistance distract, detract from, or discourage him from his assignment in the moment.
Reflective Question:
[1] How do you plan, this week, to live faithfully to God’s calling on your life?
