Introduction
Hello, this is Kenneth, and welcome to Dwell.
Today is Saturday, January 18th. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily.
Thanks for joining us for The Melodic Line for Kids.
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
Opening Prayer‌ Father in heaven, your way is pure and your words are perfect. Remind us today that you are a shield for all those who take refuge in you.
Passage
Today our passage is Psalm 5 verses 4-8 (ESV)
For you are not a God who delights in wickedness;
evil may not dwell with you.
The boastful shall not stand before your eyes;
you hate all evildoers.
You destroy those who speak lies;
the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man.
But I, through the abundance of your steadfast love, will enter your house.
I will bow down toward your holy temple
in the fear of you.
Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness
because of my enemies;
make your way straight before me.
Exhortation
When you truly love something or someone, then you will hate that which harms or destroys what you love. I love my wife therefore I hate any disease that would do her harm. I love children, therefore I hate that which seeks to harm them. It's a pretty simple idea.
In the truly great stories, you are supposed to rejoice at the defeat of the villain. When Darth Vader throws the emperor to his death, we celebrate that the chief cause of harm and death in the galaxy has been defeated. I bet you could think of other stories where you were glad when the bad guy was stopped.
This is how the world works. We live in a broken world with deadly diseases and evil dictators. We celebrate when the good guys find new cures or destroy evil empires.
God does not delight in wickedness. He, in fact, destroys the wicked, and saves those he loves. This is exactly what the cross is about. Jesus, giving up his own life, enters into death in order to defeat it, not for himself, but for his people. God will destroy the wicked of this world, and that is a good thing.
We should take care to not fall into the trap of the Serpent and become like him, and ourselves be destined for destruction. No, rather we should follow God in his righteousness and goodness, and enjoy everlasting life in his presence!
Call to Action Let’s take a moment to meditate on God’s good victory over evil.
Closing Prayer‌ Let’s pray together.
Father, by your Son you have taken the sting out of death for all those who cling to Jesus. In your kindness you have adopted us into your holy family. May we celebrate when wickedness is brought down and righteousness is lifted up. We pray this in the power of the Spirit and the name of your saving Son, Jesus. Amen.
Outro
It's been great to be with you today.
Tomorrow, we'll be in Acts chapter 4. Until then, go in peace, and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
Now, go in peace and let the word of King Jesus Dwell in you richly.
