SCRIPTURE OF THE YEAR
In the last days, the mountain of the Lord’s house will be the highest of all— the most important place on earth. It will be raised above the other hills, and people from all over the world will stream there to worship.
SCRIPTURE FOR THE WEEK
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.
For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ.
Everyone should be careful how he builds
Foundations are very important, because they form the basis on which the structure will stand
Whether it is a foundation for a building, marriage, family , society or Church, foundations are very important
You get the foundation wrong and everything else will be wrong
When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
So many buildings collapse because the foundation was built wrong
We cannot change the shape of the foundation
Why should the builders of the church be careful?
The foundation has already been laid.
No builder of the church should try to lay any foundation other than … Jesus Christ.
There is no Christianity without Christ
It is Jesus Christ and Him alone.
The foundation is not the doctrine (teaching) about Him, but HIM
Paul is speaking of the value and quality of each person’s contribution to the church.
Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw.
But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.
If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward.
If the building materials are strong enough to survive the test, the builders will be rewarded
What building materials are we using to build on the foundation?
All of Scripture is both from and about Jesus Christ.
The Old Testament predicted and prepared for His incarnation.
The gospels tell the history of His earthly ministry
Acts the history of His church in its early years.
The epistles are commentaries on His message and work
The book of Revelation is the final testimony of His reigning and imminent return.
We need to get our spiritual foundations and priorities right before we expect other things to fall into place
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household,
built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.
And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.
So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.
He is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone.’
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”
The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone;
As it is written: “See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”
Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,”
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.
And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.
