JAMES A FAITH THAT WORKS-THE POWER OF OUR WORDS…
Pray-honor..
Introduction.
Picture stepping into each week with a fresh sense of purpose—to be salt and light in every interaction, every decision, and every place God has placed you. Knowing Jesus and making Him known isn’t just for Sundays; it’s a calling for every single day. That’s why we have small groups—to support one another, to grow in faith, anointing, and character, and to encourage each other to use our God-given gifts to make a real difference.
As we explore the book of James, we’re reminded of its call to live with integrity. God wants our hearts and words to reflect Jesus in every setting, from Monday to Friday.
Let’s embrace God’s Word as the final authority in our lives, allowing it to shape us so that we can be faithful witnesses every day.
So with this in mind please turn with me to James 3:1-12
James 3:1–12 (NIV)
1 Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
2We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.
6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind,
8but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
1 1Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
12My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
1 JESUS IS LORD OF OUR HEART AND OUR MOUTH
James 3:3–4 (NIV)
3 When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.
4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.
In selecting the bit and the rudder , the word of God presented two items that are small of themselves, yet exercise great power, just like the tongue.
A small bit enables the rider to control the great horse, and a small rudder enables the pilot to steer the huge ship.
The tongue is a small member in the body, and yet it has the power to accomplish great things.
Both the bit and the rudder must overcome contrary forces.
The bit must overcome the wild nature of the horse, and the rudder must fight the winds and currents that would drive the ship off its course.
The bit and rudder have the power to direct, which means they affect the lives of others.
A runaway horse or a shipwreck could mean injury or death to pedestrians or passengers. The words we speak affect the lives of others.
The human tongue also must overcome contrary forces.
We have an old nature that wants to control us and make us sin.
There are circumstances around us that would make us say things we ought not to say.
There are 2 types of people in the world : believers and unbelievers.
Unbelievers can tell we are different by two areas.
The way we speak and the way we act.
Sin on the inside and pressures on the outside are seeking to get control of our  tongue.
This means that both the bit and the rudder must be under the control of a strong hand.
The expert horseman keeps the mighty power of his steed under control, and the experienced pilot courageously steers the ship through the storm.
When Jesus Christ controls the tongue, then we need not fear saying the wrong things—or even saying the right things in a wrong way!
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue,”  (Prov. 18:21).
Acts 1:2 (NIV)
2until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen.
No wonder David prayed, “Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing” (Ps. 141:3–4).
David knew that the heart is the key to right speech. “
Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Matt. 12:34).
When Jesus Christ is the Lord of the heart, then He is Lord of the lips too.
Family could follow Davids prayer life  as a way of life.
Can we start to pray this daily Jesus be lORD OF MY HEART,TONGUES .Lord set a watch over my tongues, help me to only speak life , faith , courAge.
Which leads me to my next point..
2 THE MESSAGE OF JESUS IS IN OUR MOUTH.
Romans 10:14 (NLT)
14But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?
Romans 10:15 (NLT)
15 And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”
Romans 10:17 (NLT)
17 So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
On April 21, 1855, Edward Kimball went into a Boston shoe store and led young Dwight L. Moody to Christ. The result: one of history’s greatest evangelists, a man whose ministry still continues. The tongue has the power to direct others to the right choices.
"Estimates vary, but Dwight Moody is thought to have led as many as a million people to confess faith in Christ.
We should Never underestimate the guidance we  give by the words we speak or do not speak.
Jesus spoke to a woman at a well, and her life and the lives of her neighbors experienced a miraculous change (John 4).
I will give you a chance at the end of the meeting to give your life to Jesus if you have not done it yet.
Peter preached at Pentecost and 3,000 souls came to salvation through faith in Christ (Acts 2).
Story,we all get excited when we purchase a new pair of shoes, we feel God, ask a lady when she purchase a new pair of shoes they excited and walk around feeling Good. when we fit our selves with the readiness to share the goodness of Jesus and we do it, it brings great joy to out father in heaven we release the river of salvation.
Application.
Get equipped on how to effectively share, communicate the gospel message to get someone saved… get equipped in the word of God to be an effective disciple of CHRIST.
Go to bible school will be a blessing for you.
3 THE RIVER FROM JESUS IS IN OUR MOUTH.
James 3:9–12 (NIV)
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness.
10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.
11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
12My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
When we come to believe that Jesus died on the cross He  WAS BURIED AND ROSE UP ON THE 3RD day ,WE REPENT OF OUR SINS AND GIVE OUR LIFE TO HIM BE ARE BORN AGAIN WE ACCEPT HIM AS LORD OF OUR LIFES.
WE ARE SAVED the Holy Spirit comes to live in us..
We need to allow the gospel to change our language …we to learn to cooperate with the Holy Spirit and the word of God.
John 6:63 (NIV)
63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.
Picture ourselves in this way -the words we speak are refreshing people , like living water… Illustration bottle of water..
Proverbs 18:21 (NIV)
21The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Picture our words as fruit , ever word a fruit coming out that is good.
We want to develop a life of biblical wisdom , that we speak God's words, because God's word in your mouth is like his words in his mouth.
God is only obligated to back His word.
Proverbs 13:14 (NIV)
14The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.
Isaiah 50:4 (ESV)
4The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakens my ear to hear as those who are taught.
IN CLOSING
God is  calling us, to speak live, to speak faith and to get in the word of God, acquire biblical wisdom from the text and start to allow God to change our Monday to Sunday.
