Introduction
Hello, this is Kenneth, and welcome to Dwell.
Today is Wednesday, February 19th. Thanks for joining us for today's Dwell Kids Daily.
Thanks for joining us for The Melodic Line for Kids.
For the next few minutes, I invite you to join me as we look to our Great King by opening our hearts to hear from Him through the words of the Bible.
Silence
As we begin, let us remember that God calls His people, young and old, to be still and know that He is God. Let's take a few seconds to clear our minds, so that we can hear him better.
Opening Prayer
Gracious God, your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Today, help us walk with you.
Passage
Today our passage is from Psalm 14 verse 1 (ESV)
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.”
Exhortation
In one of the books in the Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis, there is a dwarf named Trumpkin. Now Trumpkin is a very important character in Narnia, and he's known for his loyal service. But Trumpkin is interesting because when we meet him, he doesn't believe in Aslan, the Divine Lion.
No, as the reader, you know Aslan is real and you can see how silly it is that Trumpkin doesn't believe in him. Eventually though, Trumpkin meets Aslan and he is humbly corrected in his persistent skepticism. Now this is a happy story because Trumpkin is basically a good character, and when he finally meets Aslan, the reader is rejoicing that he now believes.
In Psalm 14 the situation is less happy. The psalmist is talking about the foolishness of humanity. He says that the person who says there is no God is a fool. That person lacks wisdom and insight. The apostle Paul says that God can clearly be seen in creation, but humanity has lost to the eyes to see and the ears to hear.
When we forget God, we don't know how to live well. Without God as our guide we do all sorts of evil to one another. Psalm 14 says that this is true of all people.
The reality is that we need to meet God. We need his spirit to heal our blindness and deafness. We need to encounter the risen Jesus. This happens when we read his word and rub shoulders with his people. Let us not be fools who say there is no God, but let us be wise and live in his presence.
Call to Action
Let’s take a moment to consider the weight of today’s passage.
Closing Prayer
Let’s pray together.
Father, you have removed the scales from the eyes of your people. We are grateful that you have revealed yourself to us in the power of your Spirit. May we always see you and hear your instruction. We ask this in Jesus name. Amen.
Outro
It's been great to be with you today.
Tomorrow, we'll be in Romans chapter 6. Until then, go in peace, and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
Now, go in peace and let the word of King Jesus dwell in you richly.
