Introduction:

In this passage of text we find two disciples traveling to the village of Emmaus. These two disciples were on a path that many of us have found ourselves in during some point of our lives. No matter if you are a born again Christian or not, everyone has experienced this same journey these two disciples found themselves on. A journey of loneliness. A journey of disappointment and confusion. A journey filled with nothing more than thoughts that cause us to lose hope.
For a brief moment, if you will, I would like to discuss this journey, and how to refrain from having to take that journey to the village of Emmaus. In order to give you a better understanding of eyes being opened, I would like to go over a few key points that will assist you in turning around from Emmaus and returning back to the land of Jerusalem.
POINT ONE: THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL
These two disciples, as mentioned in Luke 24:13 were headed to Emmaus, and they were departing from Jerusalem.

They were leaving Jerusalem. All of my bible readers know that Jerusalem’s significance lies in its status as Yahweh’s chosen center of His divine kingship. So in a sense, they were departing from the Lord.
Why? Because it was the 3rd day, the day in which Jesus said He would rise again, and the tomb which temporarily held Jesus was found empty that morning. And this caused a devastation on their hopes in Jesus being the Messiah.
POINT TWO: NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF HOPELESS, WAITING
