The Dwelling Place

Good morning Church!

Bibles out…Exodus 25.

Series titled Desire to Dwell…

Last week:

_Israel at Mt Sinai

-Covenant finalized (signed in blood)

So…God has delivered His people, He has put a Law in place to dwell amongst them…NOW ITS TIME TO DWELL!!!

BUT God needs a place to do so!

What we are going to see today…God instructing the Israelites to build His dwelling place…

HOW MANY OF US IN HERE ARE DIYers???

Whenever you are about to start, first thing, GO GET MATERIALS (LOWES)

The bible tells us…as Israelites left Egypt the Egyptians gave them a bunch of prized possessions, they plundered them in Exodus 12.

The Lord, all the way back in Exodus 12 gave them the materials to build His house…

Moses still up on Mt Sinai…And he is about to get the exact instructions on how to build the dwelling place of the Lord

25:1-9 READ!!!

7 Elements of the Dwelling Place of God:

FORM AND FUNCTION

The Ark of the Covenant(25:10-22)

What we know about the Ark:

-Its made of gold

-Its mobile (rings with poles that are never to be removed)

-It contains holy things (Gods word, manna,Aarons staff that budded)

-It has a lid (mercy seat) God says this is where I will come down and sit…This is my throne

-Contains POWER (Joshua-Cross the Jordan river at Jericho, Samuel false God statues crumble)

The Table of Bread(25:23-30)

-made of gold

-Contained Bread of the Presence or SHEWBREAD

-12 loaves made precisely in accordance to the law in Leviticus 24.

-One loaf for each tribe of Israel (showed that each tribe had a seat at God’s table and that He provides for them)

The Lamp of Light(25:31-40, 27:20-21)

-The Hebrew word for this lamp is a “Minora”

-Made of gold, had 7 cups of flame

-This lamp was the only source of light in the holy place where it resided

-Showed the eternal light of the Lord and was to burn always!

The Tabernacle of God (26:1-37)

Broken up into 2 rooms:

-The Holy Place

Contained the table of showbread, the lamp, and altar of incense

-The Holy of Hollies

Where the ark resides

2 rooms separated by a VEIL

This is the floor plan

The Altar of Sacrifice(27:1-8)

-made of bronze

-Big grill (fire box, grate)

-This sets outside the tent, in the court (big fence v9-19)

-Used for sacrificial offerings to the Lord

The Altar of Incense (30:1-10)

-made of gold

-Sat in front of the veil

-Incense burned every morning

-Symbolized the prayers of Gods people (David often spoke of his prayers going up to God like the smoke of burning incense)

The Basin of cleansing (30:17-21)

-made of bronze

-Big basin of clean water

-Used to wash the priests clean before they entered the Holy place

Lets put this all together…

EVERYTHING OUTSIDE OF THE TENT WAS MADE OF BRONZE

EVERYTHING INSIDE WAS MADE OF GOLD

THIS WHOLE TABERNACLE WAS MOBILE.

DESIGNED BY GOD TO BE WITH ISRAEL WHERE EVER THEY GO!

Any Israelite could enter the courtyard

Only priests could enter the Holy Place (to refill incense and oil for lamp)

Only high priest could enter Holy of Hollies, once a year…

THIS IS A HOLY AND RESTRICTED AREA…

YOU COULD DIE!!!

In order to get into the Holy of Hollies the High Priest had to come through the gate…

Sacrifice a bunch of animals for sins…

Be washed clean…

The lamps have to be burning always…

the show bread fresh and laid out…

The incense burned on the altar daily…

And then only once a year can the high priest walk past the veil and go into this holy place…

IT ALL POINTS TO JESUS

Exodus 25:8 God said to Moses “ let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.”

JESUS IS the Ultimate sacrifice

Hebrews 7:27 “He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.”

JESUS HAS Washed us clean

1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Jesus is the tabernacle

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Jesus said I AM GOD AMONG YOU!

Jesus is The Bread (on the table)

John 6:35 “Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

Jesus is the Light (in the lamp)

John 8:12 “Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””

JESUS tore the Vail!!

Matthew 27:50–51 “And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom…”

Now the prayers of God’s children are not separated with a vail but they flow to Him freely!!!

The vail is torn now you have access to the holiest place!!!!

Jesus is The Ark (of salvation):

John 14:6 “Jesus said , “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Adam and eve in the garden…kicked out of the garden

Since then God desires to be back with His people…

Face to face walking with them…

Through Jesus we have the Holy Spirit…

Which is God dwelling in us…

BUT THE STORY ISNT OVER!!!

THERE IS COMING A DAY WHERE WE WILL PHYSICALLY WALK AMONGST A HOLY LORD!!!!

Physically dwell with the living God… Listen to what John see’s and writes in Revelation!!!

Revelation 21:1–4 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.””

THIS WAS ALL MADE POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF JESUS!!!
