PAUL’S PRAYER FOR UNITY
It’s interesting that Paul’s elaboration “to be of the same mind with one another” is also in the form of a prayer. In this sense, he was following Jesus’ example. Note also that prior to this “one another” prayer, Paul issued two more “one another” exhortations that set the stage for this prayer for unity.
Don’t “Judge One Another”
First, Paul told these believers not to “judge one another,” but rather, to determine “not to put any stumbling block or obstacle” in a brother’s way (Rom. 14:3). In other words, even if we feel we have freedom to do certain things that do not violate the will of God, the law of love should cause us to avoid any behavior that may cause another brother or sister to stumble and fall into sin.
ROM 14:3 3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them.
What practical steps can you take to ensure you’re not putting a stumbling block in someone else’s way?
What are the two 'one another' exhortations Paul issued before the prayer for unity?
