Numbers 14:18

The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.

“longsuffering” - (adjective) having or showing patience in spite of troubles, especially those caused by other people

I. This Speaks To The Character Of God.

The Lord puts up with us.
longsuffering,
The Lord gives us opportunity.
and of great mercy,
The Lord forgives the cause.
forgiving iniquity and
The Lord forgives the effect.
transgression,
The Lord has to punish Someone for your sins. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
and by no means clearing the guilty

II. This Speaks To The Character Of Humanity.

We caused the problems.
We do not deserve mercy.
We are full of iniquity.
We commit transgression against God Himself.
We can never undo what we did.

III. This Speaks To The Character Of Scripture.

We must rightly divide God’s Book as students of it. (2 Timothy 2:15)
We must cross reference Scripture with Scripture for the proper interpretation.
In this verse we must also see Deuteronomy 24:16 with 2 Chronicles 25:1-4 and Ezekiel 18:20.

Conclusion:

Your wickedness is your wickedness.
You will be responsible for you.
