Romans 8:22–25 (ESV)
22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.
23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
Have you ever waited for something so long that you felt like your whole body ached you felt like you were gonna die in the inside if you had to wait any longer. When I think of this, I think of the wife of a soldier who's at war aching, and waiting for the day that he comes back on leave. I could even think of the excitement of a new mother or father, waiting for their child to be born.
All of the world has been waiting for the redemption that comes through Jesus our passage says the whole creation, Then it also pivots saying that just the creation, but also those of us who have the first fruits of the spirit eagerly await adoption as son, redemption of our bodies.
Now within this passage, I think we see two things the future reality that is guaranteed and the waiting. Period. You see the reality is that you and I are guaranteed to be adopted as children of God to the point of we are children of God because of what Jesus did on the cross. We are also guaranteed to have the redemption of our bodies when Jesus comes back in the same way. This is the picture of already, but not yet and we wait eagerly with hope for this to become the full reality.
When a mother is pregnant with a child, she already has a child. The child already exists has feet fingers eyes, but the mother cannot see her child. She's already a mother, but she's not yet physically holding her child in the same way we are already children of God we have already buried fruit of the spirit, and we will have redeemed bodies, but we just don't have it in our hands yet.
My question is for us do we have hope that makes this into a reality?
Do we look at this passage and see the goodness of God, full of excitement and trust?
And when we hope and the things that we can't see touch or feel yet, are we Patient?
Do we view the adoption as sons and daughters and the redemption of our bodies the same way we would the birth of a child in a few months?
Do we see it as just as much of a guarantee?
Because the reality is our belief, our understanding, and our hope is based in our faith in our God?
So, how is our faith? How is our trust In the promises of God?
