Luke 2:41 NASB 95
Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover.
This was an annual celebration of giving thanks to God for His deliverance.
In ancient Israel, a thank offering, or Todah in Hebrew, was a voluntary sacrifice made to express gratitude to God:
When made A thank offering was made to give thanks for surviving a life-threatening crisis or danger. What was offered The offering included unleavened cakes, wafers, and fried cakes made from fine flour and mixed with oil. It could also include meat. How it was eaten The offering had to be eaten that day, and the Rabbis taught that it encouraged people to share the meal with others. Why it was made The offering was meant to be a joyful response to God's goodness and provision, and to glorify God and bless others. How it compared to other offerings Unlike other offerings, which could be eaten for up to two days, the thank offering had to be finished that day.
We will come back next to look at what happened while on this trip back home but i want to use this thought to jump to the annual celebration we are all going to participate in this week.
