The Future Looks Bright: True King

John 18:33–38, Revelation 1:4–8, Daniel 7:9–10, Daniel 7:13–14

Summary: The passages explore the kingship of Jesus Christ from His crucifixion to the establishment of His eternal Kingdom (enthronement), emphasizing the hope and brightness of the future that believers have in Him.
Application: In times of political unrest, division, and uncertainty, focusing on the eternal Kingdom and the reign of King Jesus can bring peace, assurance, and hope to Christians and non-Christians alike. Believers can find comfort in knowing that despite the challenges of the present, they belong to a Kingdom that will never fade away.
Teaching: The Return of Christ

The Return of Christ

Jesus reveals one final sign in Matthew 24:30: “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” This is the final sign, but it is not a sign of warning; it is the end of the warnings. Christ has promised that he will return visibly to the earth. As Hebrews summarizes it, he “will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him” (Hebrews 9:28). The return of Christ (or parousia) is a simple teaching, but it is sadly complicated by those who go beyond Scripture. Our Savior wants us to know that he is coming for us, and he wants us to be ready.

While all of the other signs can be ignored and rejected in unbelief, there will be no mistaking the return of our Savior. Matthew 24:30 says that the nations will see him. No one will overlook his coming, for “… every eye will see him, even those who pierced him …” (Revelation 1:7). He warns us not to believe people who tell us that he has already come. If we have not seen him, he has not come. His return will be visible to all (Matthew 24:26–27).

It will be a great and glorious day. Our Lord tells us to be ready and watchful for his return. He tells us the signs so that we will be prepared. Yet he does not give us a schedule. Christians are not given the exact time and date of Christ’s return (Acts 1:6–7). The timing is unknown by the angels, and even Jesus in his state of humiliation did not know the timing of the parousia (Mark 13:32). No, the moment of his return will be a surprise.

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. 2For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape (1 Thessalonians 5:1–3).

Paul’s image is a particularly fitting one. The time of Christ’s return is like the onset of labor pains. A woman does not know exactly when her labor will begin, but she has ample sign that her delivery is close! The child growing within her needs to be born. Likewise, Christians will not know the precise timing of Christ’s return. We will all be surprised by the timing, but we will not be surprised that he does return.

Since he has already justified us in his first coming, he does not come to suffer for sins again (Hebrews 9:24). No, the purpose of his coming is to bring salvation to his people. He comes to judge the nations and to bring us to live with him eternally.

Point of Development: We have the easiest view. Not pre, mid, post trib, preterist or complicated. Ours is Amillenialist and it means when he returns is when he returns. It’s not complicated, aggravating or mind bending. It’s simple and its so simple that we don’t get bogged down by it because we got work to do.
Consider sharing story of when I thought the world had ended and I was left behind (Pastor Morner and 2 Timothy 1:7 )
How this passage could point to Christ: The theme of the eternal Kingdom and the reign of Jesus Christ can be traced throughout the Bible, by asking three simple questions: Who is God? Who Am I? and What is the World to me? all these are pointing to God’s divine authority, victory, and ultimate rule over all creation. In Revelation, Jesus is depicted as the Alpha and Omega, the Almighty, who was, is, and is to come, emphasizing His eternal nature and divine identity.
Big Idea: By fixing our eyes on the eternal King and His everlasting Kingdom, we can find hope, peace, and purpose in the midst of worldly uncertainties and challenges. Our future looks bright because we belong to a Kingdom that is unshakable and a King who reigns forever.

Today we need to talk about P-O-L-I-T- euma AGAIN (definition and what it is)

So what does it mean to be dual citizens? Well we know enough about our nation and its politics and its citizens. So no need to go there (whew) but let’s talk about this other citizenship we have… Who is God (as we are citizens of His Kingdom). Who are we (what is the relationship between this reign and rule of God and us) How do we interact with the world as citizens of heaven?

Who is God? (Introduction to the Lord’s Prayer)

Unique ruler
1st incomplete answer
Do we know the truth about God? Daniel 7 and the Ancient of Days (Mystery) Mark 14:53-65 some people say no (mystery) but God revealed Jesus (definition of God: My God is the God who Jesus calls God) God is our Father in Heaven
Is Everything really about Jesus? Daniel 7 and Revelation 1 some people say no (love, spirituality) But our way does make the way back to God
Is God involved in my life? John 18 Just look at what He did in sending Jesus

Who am I? (1st Petition to the Lord’s Prayer)

unique dress and lifestyle
2nd incomplete answer
What are people? The Crowd and Pilate from John 18 They are not holy. God is holy. They were supposed to teach the truth but they loved a lie
What’s the deal with sin? Revelation 1 and John 18 This is what we do with Holy things, we profane them and live contrary to God’s plan
What about those around us? John 18 Sinners just like us in need of a savior. We ask a Holy God to protect us from ourselves

What is the World to Me? (2nd and 3rd Petition to the Lord’s Prayer)

Unique message with the world
Restate the questions:
What does the world need? A different king and kingdom Daniel 7 John 18 Revelation 1 We need God to bring His kingdom here
Does the church matter? We don’t build the kingdom… we just get to be in the neighborhood when God does His work… if you want to see what building the kingdom looks like look at Jesus in John 18 and look then to the kingdom coming in Revelation 1 Christ brings a kingdom and reign no one can make Daniel 7
What does the future look like for us? God breaking and every evil purpose and plan of the devil, the world and our sinful nature.
Simple statement of the answer
Teaching on the Return of Christ
Story of when I thought the world had ended (Pastor Morner 2 Timothy 1:7)
The election will not break us or the church. Every evil purpose of the devil, the world and sinful people will not thwart our King and His Kingdom. While we are here it is our duty to live as citizens of this great nation but also our great heavenly commonwealth
