The Coming of the Bread of Life
The Coming of the Bread of Life
Bread satisfies our hunger and sustains us physically. The Bread of Life satisfies us with eternal life and sustains us forever.
Micah 5:2 “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.”
Bethlehem- house of bread, Ephrathah- fruitfulness
Luke 2:7 “And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.”
Don’t Hunger for Bread That Can’t Satisfy
Don’t Hunger for Bread That Can’t Satisfy
The people were so focused on their physical needs that they were blind to their spiritual need.
Deuteronomy 8:3 “And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”
See Matthew 6:31–33 and Isaiah 55:1-3...
The Bread That Came Down From Heaven
The Bread That Came Down From Heaven
The Jews struggled to accept that Jesus was God in the flesh.
See John 6:33, 41-42...
Malachi 3:1 ““Behold, I send my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple; and the messenger of the covenant in whom you delight, behold, he is coming, says the Lord of hosts.”
How to Eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood
How to Eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood
To eat His flesh and drink His blood is simply to believe in Him for eternal life.
John 6:27 “Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.””
John 6:52 “The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?””
John 6:63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.”
See verses 29, 35, 37, 40, 47
Finding Satisfaction for Our Hunger and Thirst
Finding Satisfaction for Our Hunger and Thirst
Jesus is the only One who can satisfy our spiritual hunger and thirst.
See John 6:66-69...
Matthew 5:6 ““Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”
Jeremiah 23:5–6 ““Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’”
Because of our sin, God must open our eyes to the infinite worth of Christ.
See 2 Corinthians 4:4-6...
John 6:44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.”
