1 Samuel 1:21-2:11; The Lord Always Has the Last Laugh

Introduction

Have you ever been wronged by someone and then unable to vindicate yourself?
Maybe that was when someone honked at you even though they were in the wrong and you were in the right.
Maybe someone said something to you and later you thought of the perfect thing to say and you have not been able to stop thinking about how much you wish you had thought about your comeback sooner.
I want us this week to remind ourselves that no matter what happens in this life, God always has the last laugh. He will always have the last say.

God Turned Weeping Into Worship (vs. 21-28)

Hannah was taunted by Peninnah and even to an extent, Eli.
God turned an empty womb into a full heart.

God Turns Pride Into Praise (vs. 1-3)

God turned Peninnah’s pride into to a reproof.
Hannah’s song also sounds like she has some pride because she has been vindicated. But she does seem to quickly turn that over to the Lord for his glory and not her own.

God Will Turn Kids Into Kings (vs. 4-11)

God is going to use this small child, Samuel, to lead Israel.
He will lead them spiritually and also be a judge.
God is going to bring about a king for his people. (vs. 10)
This king will be the least likely candidate. He will be the last born son of a shepherd.

Conclusion

I never would never marry or have children.

Application

Trust that the Lord will have the last laugh.
When taunting or adversity comes our way, remind yourselves that God will have the last laugh.
When you begin to have pride, turn to God in humility and give him all the glory!
If you haven’t put your faith in Jesus, turn to him today. Recognize he is sovereign. Bow in allegiance to him today and not out of defeat at the end of your life.
