Vision for the New Year

Scripture Reading: Philippians 3:13-14
Introduction: Good morning, beloved. As we stand on the threshold of a new year, it’s a time for reflection and anticipation. The turning of the calendar offers us a fresh start, a chance to set new goals and seek God’s guidance for the year ahead. Today, let’s explore what it means to have a vision for the new year, grounded in faith and trust in God’s plan for our lives.
Body:
1. Reflecting on the Past: The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, encourages us to forget what lies behind and strain forward to what lies ahead (Philippians 3:13-14). Reflecting on the past year, we acknowledge both our successes and our failures. We celebrate the moments of joy and learn from the challenges. But most importantly, we leave behind any regrets, knowing that God’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
2. Setting a Godly Vision: As we set our vision for the new year, we must seek God’s will above all else. Proverbs 29:18 reminds us that “where there is no vision, the people perish.” A godly vision is one that aligns with His purposes and plans. It involves prayer, seeking His guidance, and being open to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Our vision should not be limited to personal ambitions but should encompass how we can serve others and glorify God in all we do.
3. Embracing Change and Growth: The new year is a time for growth and transformation. Romans 12:2 urges us not to conform to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This transformation comes through a deeper relationship with God, studying His Word, and allowing His truth to shape our thoughts and actions. Embrace the changes that come with a new year, trusting that God is working in and through you.
4. Persevering in Faith: Having a vision for the new year also means being prepared for the challenges that may come. Hebrews 12:1-2 encourages us to run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus. There will be obstacles and trials, but with faith and determination, we can overcome them. Remember that God is with us every step of the way, providing strength and guidance.
5. Living with Purpose: Finally, let us live with purpose in the new year. Colossians 3:23-24 reminds us to work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord we will receive the inheritance as our reward. Whatever we do, let it be done for the glory of God. Let our vision for the new year be one of purpose, service, and dedication to His kingdom.
Conclusion: As we embark on this new year, let us do so with a clear vision, rooted in faith and guided by God’s Word. May we seek His will, embrace growth, persevere in faith, and live with purpose. Let us trust that God has great plans for us, plans to prosper us and not to harm us, plans to give us hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of a new year. Help us to set our vision according to Your will. Guide us, transform us, and strengthen us as we seek to live for Your glory. May this year be filled with Your blessings and may we walk closely with You every day. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
