The King Who Reigns Forever

Bible Passage: Psalm 93, Revelation 1:4–8, John 18:33–37, Daniel 7:9–10

Summary: These passages together describe the sovereignty and majesty of God as King, emphasizing His eternal reign, authority over creation, and the ultimate victory of Christ.
Application: This sermon can help children understand that God is always in control and that Jesus is our King who loves and protects us. It reassures them that they can trust in God's power, especially when they feel afraid or uncertain.
Teaching: Through the exploration of these texts, children will learn about the greatness of God as King, the importance of His throne, and how Jesus fulfills the role of King in our lives through His love and sacrifice.
How this passage could point to Christ: In these passages, Christ is revealed as the eternal King who now reigns from heaven. Daniel prophesies His authority, John acknowledges His divine status, and Revelation depicts His eternal kingship, culminating in the hope of His return.
Big Idea: God is our mighty King, and through Jesus, we have a loving ruler who reigns with power and authority over all the earth.
Recommended Study: As you prepare, consider diving into the imagery of kingship in the Old Testament, especially in Daniel, and how it connects to the New Testament's portrayal of Jesus in Revelation. Check the Logos library for commentary on the symbolism of the throne and authority in these passages to provide children with a vivid understanding of God's sovereignty.

1. Majestic Reign of God

Psalm 93
You could highlight how Psalm 93 beautifully portrays the majesty and stability of God's reign over all creation. The imagery of God's throne established from of old reassures believers, especially children, that no matter what happens around them, God's powerful and everlasting rule provides safety and security. Connect this to the application by reminding them that even when things feel chaotic or scary, God remains in control eternally, filling them with peace.

2. Divine Throne of Justice

Daniel 7:9–10
Perhaps focus on how Daniel's vision of the Ancient of Days seated on a throne reinforces God's supreme authority. Describe the scene vividly, drawing children into the awe and wonder of God's holy presence. This passage reassures them that God's throne represents stability and justice, a reminder of His fair rule amidst a world that sometimes seems unfair.

3. Heavenly Truth of Jesus

John 18:33–37
Maybe emphasize Jesus' conversation with Pilate, illustrating His kingship that transcends earthly power. Jesus clarifies that His kingdom is not of this world, which teaches children that His rule is rooted in truth and love. Encourage them to understand that Jesus loves them personally and rules with a peace-giving authority, contrasting worldly ideas of kingship.

4. Eternal Hope in Jesus

Revelation 1:4–8
Consider focusing on how this passage reveals Jesus as the ruler of the kings of the earth and His future return. Assure the children that Jesus is alive, reigning now, and one day all will see His power fully realized. This passage brings hope, reminding them that in Jesus, they have a loving King who promises to come back for His people.
Hello Kids!
When you are in school, do you listen to your teachers?
Do you listen to Mom, Dad, grandma, or grandpa when you are at home?
If you close your eyes, can you tell whose voice is whose when they call your name?
What about when you are at church when we pray and close our eyes… Whose voice should we listen to here?
Do you know how we can hear Jesus’ voice here at church?
We hear him in the words read here, in the pastor's message, and even in the words we sing. We listen to him, and we know the sound of his voice from the words he says to us when we worship.
When we listen to and follow Jesus, we hear the truth because he is the truth! When we hear this, we can share it with our friends so they can know him too! Jesus can be their king and bring them into his kingdom as well.
Prayer - Father, thank you for giving us your Son so that we may hear and follow his voice. Help us teach others about him so they can also be heirs to his kingdom. In Jesus' name we pray - Amen.
