We believe that justification is one of the great gospel blessings (Romans 3:24,25,) secured through Christ for all who trust Him (John 5:24); that it is a legal and divine decree, declaring the believing (Genesis 15:6) sinner just; that it is thus a state of being free from condemnation (Romans 8:1), including forgiveness for inward sins and pardon for outward sins (Romans 6:6); that it secures through faith (Romans 4:3-8) freedom from legal bondage, exemption from the wrath of God (Romans 5:9), and possession of peace (Romans 5:1) which passes all understanding (Philippians 4:7); that it is bestowed, not in consideration of any works of righteousness (Romans 3:28) which we have done, but solely upon the evidence of faith in God and the Redeemer’s blood; that it brings us into a state of unchanging peace and favor with God (Romans 8:31-33) and secures every other blessing needful for time and eternity.

Propitiation—This word means the act of appeasing wrath. It also has the sense of covering. Understanding propitiation is critical to our understanding of justification. The reason that a sinner can be declared just is because the wrath of God for the sins of the sinner has been appeased. They have been covered by the blood of the sacrifice, which is Jesus. Propitiation is satisfaction of divine justice.
Why does justification make one free from condemnation?
Why does justification make one exempt from the wrath of God?
Why is the peace which comes with justification known as peace which passes all understanding?
Why are works of righteousness not sufficient to obtain justification?
Why is justification based solely upon faith in God and the Redeemer’s blood?
Why is the peace which it brings unchanging?
