1. Choose Conversations Carefully

Proverbs 18:21 (ESV)
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
1 Samuel 17:28 (ESV)
Now Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab’s anger was kindled against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your presumption and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle.”
1 Samuel 17:29 ESV
And David said, “What have I done now? Was it not but a word?”
1 Samuel 17:32 ESV
And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”
1 Samuel 17:43–47 (ESV)
And the Philistine said to David, “Am I a dog, that you come to me with sticks?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
The Philistine said to David, “Come to me, and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the field.”
Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel,
and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
David’s brothers, King Saul, and all the army of Israel were speaking fear. They were afraid of the giant that stood in the valley who was shouting out in defiance of God. How many times have we heard the enemy shouting into our ears and we have responded with worry, fear, and doubt? The battle is not about the enemy’s attack. The key to the battle is your response. You can choose to respond in fear, or you can respond with faith.
The first person David spoke faith to was his brother, the same brother who was the first one rejected by God to be anointed the next king. Eliab chose to speak “death” but David refused to listen to the lies of the enemy and cower back in fear. David responded, “Is there not a cause?” Then he turned and challenged all the others around, and the Bible says they all answered with the same doubt, fear, and frustration that Eliab did.
The next person that doubted David was Saul who was also hiding from Goliath. So often, you will find the ones attacking you for stepping out in faith are the ones who are too afraid to step out. Saul said, “You are not able to fight this Philistine.” But David’s reply was, “If I can take down a lion and a bear with my bare hands, this Philistine will fall just like they did.”
The first two that doubted David were not the enemy. They were people who should have known God, should have been able to speak and walk in faith but since they were afraid, they spoke out against the only one who wasn’t. Sometimes in life, you will find that it is not only the enemy who will speak fear, doubt, and death into your life. It is often those who should be walking in faith, ones who should know the power of God.
Finally, David stands before the enemy. When Goliath mocked him and tried to cause him to fear, David relied on the power of the Holy Spirit on him and was able to speak in complete faith that God had his back.

2. Control Your Conversations

James 3:2–4 (ESV)
For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body.
If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well.
Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.
The words you speak impact the course of your life. James tells us that the one who can control his tongue can control his whole body. He compares the tongue to a bit in a horse’s mouth and to the rudder of a ship. You can steer a cruise ship with a rudder. Wherever the rudder turns, that is the direction the ship will take. The same is true with your life.
James tells us if we do not control our speech, it sets our whole life on fire (James 3:6). But he says the one who controls their speech controls their whole life.
Galatians 6:7–9 (ESV)
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that will he also reap.
For the one who sows to his flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart.
Your words are seed for your future. What you speak now can impact your whole life. If you do not like what you are reaping, change what you are sowing.
There are a lot of Christians who you would think are PR reps for the enemy. All they ever talk about is what is wrong in their life and in the world. You don’t dare ask them, “How are you?” because you know all you are going to get is a long list of everything that is wrong. Some people walk around all the time just saying things like, “This world is awful. I don’t see how people are going to make it. Things are just going to keep getting worse.”
STOP DOING THE ENEMY’S JOB FOR HIM!!!! SHUT UP IN THE NAME OF JESUS!!!
Maybe if you would change your words, you would change your life. If everything seems to be going wrong in your life, why not try changing what you are speaking? Obviously, speaking negative all the time is not changing it, so what would it hurt to speak faith and life?
How about speaking life into the people we come into contact with? Instead of telling people, “You are going to hell”, how about we prophecy over them “God is going to do a great work in your life.”

3. Confess with Conviction

Matthew 12:34–37 (ESV)
You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil.
I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Why is it so important to speak faith? Because Jesus said what you speak is what is inside of you. It comes from your heart. If you are speaking doubt, worry, and fear, guess what is in your heart!
Hebrews 11:6 (ESV)
But without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
Without faith, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD!!!!
If you are not speaking faith, it is not in your heart. If faith is not in your heart, you cannot be pleasing to God. To draw close to God, we must believe that He is!! We must know in our heart that we serve a living God who cares for us, watches over us, protects us, and provides for us. If speaking faith draws us closer to God, who does speaking fear draw us closer to?
The Bible says He rewards those who seek Him! You are not seeking Him if you are always speaking fear, worry, and doubt. You are seeking Him when you are speaking faith. And He will reward you because like Paul said in Galatians, “God is not mocked. whatever a man sows, so shall he reap.” If you did not reap what you sow, it would be a mockery to God.
Numbers 23:19 (ESV)
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
Do you believe God? Do you trust Him to keep His Word? You must have faith to please Him and if you have faith, according to Jesus, it will come out of you!!
What does all of this have to do with the Holy Spirit? It is only through Him that we can have faith and speak faith. It is only through Him that we can tame our tongue. James says, no man can tame the tongue. That is why we need the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2, He came down as tongues of fire and set on fire the tongue of every person in the room. They began to speak a language they had never spoken before. Before this, they were hiding and speaking fear. After this, they were able to boldly proclaim the gospel and speak faith in every situation. It was only after this encounter that Peter and John were able to speak to the lame man and say, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” It was only after this encounter that they would be thrown in prison only to stand in the temple the next day and keep preaching Jesus.
Holy Spirit language is:
Faith not Fear Wisdom not Worry Worship not Whining Praise not Pouting Contentment not Complaining Gratitude not Grumbling Grace not Gossip Joy not Jealousy Mercy not Mean Blessings not Cursings
Reflecting on the biblical story of Peter walking on water, we often focus on the moment he began to sink due to fear. But what if we remember the faith it took to step out of the boat in the first place? When we speak faith instead of fear, we take a step towards the miraculous. Just as Peter called out to Jesus, we too can call upon Him, transforming our fears into declarations of faith, and rise above the storms in our lives.
If we want to experience the miraculous works of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we must speak the Holy Spirit’s language of faith.
