Isaiah 52:6 NIV
Therefore my people will know my name; therefore in that day they will know that it is I who foretold it. Yes, it is I.”
Matthew 1:21 NIV
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:23 ESV
“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).
2. Hope of the nations
Matthew 12:21 NIV
In his name the nations will put their hope.”
Matthew 18:20 NIV
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Mark 9:37 NIV
“Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”
3. The Answer of our prayers
John 14:13–14 NIV
And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
4. Healing power
Acts 3:6–9 NIV
Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
5. Power to cast out demons
Acts 16:16–18 NIV
Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.” She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
6. The only Name for our salvation
Romans 10:11 NIV
As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.”
For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile- the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
1 John 5:13 NIV
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Titus 3:5–7 NIV
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
1 Corinthians 6:11 NIV
And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
7. Power to forgive our sins
1 John 2:12 NIV
I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
Mark 2:2–4 NIV
They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on.
Mark 2:5–7 NIV
When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Mark 2:8–10 NIV
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man,
Mark 2:11–12 NIV
“I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
CONCLUSION
The meaning of Jesus is the Savior of the world.
The wages of our sin is death and the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart.
Our name has a meaning. Likewise the meaning of Jesus is the Savior of the world through whom you and me can be saved. People think that good works can result in the eternal life, but no matter how much we try to be good, it is impossible for us to satisfy God, because we are sinners. And the wages of our sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. And this gift is for all human beings including you and me. Jesus is knocking at the door of your heart. Please accept Him as your personal Lord and your king. I hope I can meet you all in heaven in the future. May our Lord bless you all!
