When I first got saved in the late 90’s we we’re coming off of the heels of the Jesus is coming era… everyone talked about the End times.
Krista and I would go on road trips and listen to all 12 of the dramatized books in the audio series called “Left Behind.”
They focus in this series on end time events beginning with the
Rapture of the Church or catching up of the saints as described in 1 Thes. 4
So many kids who grew up in this ear would tell stories of coming home after a long day… and the house was quiet… and panic would run through the heart… wonder if you we’re left behind?
Depending on what your end times theology is…
Did Jesus come back in the twinkling of an eye?
Tribulation and rapture his church to spare them the tribulation and worst of times.
Am I living in the actual final count down… the final 7 years of earth as we know it?
Will I survive the horror of these years…
The bible describes that Jesus will come again with the host of heaven and establish his kingdom.
The Gospel according to Mark (King James Version) A. The Signs of the End Time, 13:1–13

Therefore, the signs that surrounded the destruction of Jerusalem are much the same as the signs that shall surround the end of the world. Therefore, what Jesus was saying had a double meaning and application (see DEEPER STUDY # 3—Mt. 24:1–14; 24:15–28. Both notes will help to see the double application.)

Descrations / Dissolusionment
v. 4 Signs of the End of the “Age”
“When will these things be?
He continues his list of things that will take place but still NOT the END…
v. 8 Sign 3: Nation against Nation and Natural Disasters, Famines
Remember when the disciples asked… When will the temple be destroyed and what will be the sign of their coming (Coming of the end)?
APPLICATION
Mark for You Persecution and Perseverance

Nothing is worse than pointless pain. But pain that is connected to a point or a purpose is so different. Childbirth involves incredible agony, but the joy of holding that newborn baby makes the pain worth it.

A day is like a 1000 years to the Lord
He continues… with the false signs of the End - rather they are the beginning of the birth of something new… a new season that will take place..
Notice the DISTRESS v. 8b - 9
v. 9***In the meantime… Here is what you can expect… suffering
Biblical, Historical, modern
Biblical
You will suffer at the hands of the religious system(Synagogues)
Historical
Christians have suffered throughout the centuries
Modern
Christians in many countries suffer
Today in America there is more tolerance for other religions and less for Christianity. Application:
The Gospel according to Mark (King James Version) A. The Signs of the End Time, 13:1–13

As long as the earth stands, the disciples of the last days (or ages) will face many of the same signs faced by those who experienced the destruction of Jerusalem. But there is to be one difference: at the end of the world, the signs will increase and intensify

Don’t be surprised by this BE on guard…
Mark for You Persecution and Perseverance

The disciples need not be alarmed when alarming things are happening around them.

Jesus says that such things are not true signs of the end, and we should not be alarmed we should expect difficulty along with the persecution that will inevitably befall his followers (13:9–11).
Friends, World trouble and persecutions against God’s people have always existed, even from the beginning of time.
What comes will be beyond anything we have seen… it wil be distinguished form all other troubl ein the world.
***The Abomolation of Desolation is the SURE sign that tribulation is comign like they have never seen…
1/2 way through Trib. the last 3 1/2 years.
Be on guard for what?
That you remain in Christ - that his light shines bright in you
Jesus spent much of his words combatting religion.. and very few of his words combatting the Roman Government… make sure you zeal is spent in the right places.
This can be a continuation of this point or a new one?
and by the way… you must shine because in the midths of your distress…
You must preach the Gospel to all nations…
Jesus pauses here for a directive.. (Then he continues with a description of what must first take place.
Notice the DIRECTIVE v.10—
Be on your guard…
How will we determine that the end is near?
v.10 The Gospel much 1st be preached to ALL Nations.
Many say Matt. 13 is speaking about 70AD only… which is when the temple was destroyed…
They place all these events within the time of the 1st century and do not see them as future events that lead to the end of the Age.
I believe many of these things Jesus saw did take place in 70 AD regarding the distraction of the temple… but it’s also clear that ALL the nations had NOT been evangelized by 70 AD
The Roman empire had been evangelized and even some places beyond… like Ethiopia and India.
But according to historical record - Large parts of northern and western Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, the Americas, and Asia beyond Persia and India remained unevangelized.
Continues with DESCRIPTION
Brother against brother
Parents agasint Children
Christians will be hated
***This is part of the birth pains but NOT the End.
Only signs that the end of the Age is NEAR…???
Why does he warn us about all things birth pains?
Notice the DEVOTION v.10—
Yea he wants us to remain devoted to the end… in the midths of these things(This might go well with the following point… be devoted for the purpose, be devoted for the promise, be devoted for…
Mark for You (Chapter 12: Signs of the End (Mark 13 Verses 1 to 37))
This is why, in the passage we are about to read, Jesus spends so long telling his disciples about what is to come. He wants them to endure to the end and be saved (Mark 13:13).
Notice the D word?/Reasons v. 19
The PURPOSE .
Jesus was preparing his disciples and us to Carry On after he is gone…
He was warning them so that their faith in Christ - would not falter.
He wanted us to prepare to ENDURE.
A call for PERSEVERANCE
Things will get hard… endure.. keep the faith.
I have heard many people say and I understand the sentiment…
Jesus come… I am ready to leave this world
But… we are not done until he is done.
We are not called to receive salvation and kick back on our lazy boy and wait for Jesus to come..
No he is working through us… his kingdom is expanding through us…
Lets reveal the Kingdom to the world… this is a call to endurane…
A PROMISE
Those who endure to the end will be SAVED
How do we endure… …
Keep our FAITH in Christ for our salvation.
Consider giving a fly over of the final days…
Notice the DISSOLUTION/Fanalie v. 19
Mark 13:19 ESV
For in those days there will be such tribulation as has not been from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, and never will be.
