What is Christian Child dedication?

Parents’ Commitment to Their Children

As followers of Jesus, parents understand the weighty responsibility they bear to guide their children in the ways of the Lord. Today’s time of dedication is just as much about the parents’ and church’s commitment as it is about the child’s future. A commitment to raise Raizo in the knowledge of God’s Word and to help him understand that salvation is a gift from God, given only through Jesus Christ.

Let’s be reminded the act of dedicating a child does not grant salvation to the little one. Salvation comes when they, in their own time, make a personal decision to accept Jesus as their Savior.

To the Parents: Today, Dad and Mom, you are publicly committing yourselves to live as examples of God’s character. You are committing to teach your children who God is, ensuring that Jesus is never a stranger to them. You are dedicating yourselves to praying for him, seeking God’s grace and protection over their lives. You are committing to understanding God’s calling on your own lives, so that your children will see in you what it means to wholeheartedly follow Jesus.

Questions to ask the parents:

Do you pledge, with God’s help, to raise your children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord, making every effort, with patience and love, to instill God’s Word, the character of Christ, and the joy of the Lord into their hearts?

Do you promise, through God’s provision, to meet your children’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs, looking to your Heavenly Father for wisdom, love, and strength to serve them, not use them?

Do you promise, with God’s help, to make it your regular prayer that your children will come to trust in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of their sins and the fulfillment of all His promises, including eternal life; and, in this faith, follow Jesus as Lord and obey His teachings?
