Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving
Since we are receiving our rights to an unshakeable kingdom we should be extremely thankful and offer God the purest worship that delights his heart as we lay down our lives in absolute surrender, filled with awe.
For our God is a holy, devouring fire!
There we things about Jesus that bothered people. To this day its true. Many are offended by what He does and does not do.
There was a lot of complaining and mumbling about Jesus and John’s works.
This Jesus spoke of the people:
“To what can I compare this generation? It is like children playing a game in the public square. They complain to their friends,
‘We played wedding songs, and you didn’t dance, so we played funeral songs, and you didn’t mourn.’
For John didn’t spend his time eating and drinking, and you say, ‘He’s possessed by a demon.’
The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.”
Jesus is describing a game played in the streets When children gathered in the marketplaces, they played a simple game. If the leaders played an imaginary flute, the other children were supposed to break into a celebratory dance. If the leaders sang a funeral dirge, the other children were supposed to wail like the professional mourners at a funeral.
Jesus now compares the current generation, a generation that complained and that couldn’t be satisfied. They always found fault and reason to criticize and put down the works of Jesus and John.
The truth about complaining and ungrateful attitudes are based off our flesh. Our desires that aren’t fulfilled. Unmet expectations.
I pray we do not fall into the trap of complaining.
Judgment on Those who complain about the ways of Jesus Christ.
Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent:
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you.
And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.
But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”
God’s works were happening but the distractions of their expectations blinded them from their need to repent.
Chorazin - sSmall town on the Sea of Galilee.
Again frustration from failures and missions not accomplished.
Beth-Saida - Home town of several of the disciples of Jesus. a place of familiarity, It was a city on the shores of the sea of Galilee.
How are we supposed to handle or deal with our disappointments and unmet expectations when it comes to Jesus.
Jesus gives us instructions on the matter
At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.
Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.
All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Unmet expectations can blind us and causes us to take our eyes off Jesus and distracts us from God.
We must repent. Repent of taking the bait of satan and focusing on the disappointments that surround us
Understand that what we are looking for is actually hidden in God and He will reveal them to babes, those humble and willing to learn.
Understand that God gave Jesus all things, and there is Unity between the father and the son when it comes to the works and ways of Jesus.
The invitation if for those who are trying hard to make things happen, working hard for good causes, those who are heavy burdened and labor hard. He tells us to come to Him and learn from Him.
Learning God’s ways yoke’s us with Christ and and teaches us how God works. When we do this the burden becomes light and we find rest.
Worship Team
So lets review:
Lets not complain, Complaining doesn’t please God and brings with it judgment
Let us be aware of our unmet expectations and doubts and questions and not allow them to distract us or lead us away from God’s heart.
Let’s be thankful because we have a Saviour that wants to reveal new and hidden things to us if we are willing to learn from Him
We must repent of our complaining and murmuring and thank God because He has a better and higher way.
We are to draw near to God and find instruction and rest.
We are to Join His work His yoke and find rest and lightness of heart.
