Start with My Story About Worship AND “The Heart”
Did my sermon in preaching class:
The “Heart” defined: “The Core of a Person” Eerdmans Bible Dictionary continues: “ Most of the Old and N.T. uses for “The Heart”, refer to:
1) ”The core within us, from which we steward our responsibility as it regards our thoughts, our will, and our actions”, and…
2) “The Heart should be seen as the internal focal point with regard to God’s dealings in our lives”.
My Text:
… watch over your heart; diligently guard it because from a sincere and pure heart come the good and noble things of life. Prov 4:23 (Voice).
“So above all, guard the affections of your heart, for they will affect all that you are”. Prov 4:23 (Passion)
verse 12 of Ps 90, which is the prayer of Moses, so please pray with me: “…teach us to number our days, that we may cultivate and present to You a heart of wisdom”.
“Teach us to number our days, so that we may apply our hearts to wisdom”. RGT
Theme of “Cultivating the Heart”: “Stewarding our Hearts”
Psalm 119:32
I shall run the way of Your commandments, For You will enlarge my heart.
Psalm 119:111
I have inherited Your testimonies forever, For they are the joy of my heart.
Theme of “Cultivating the Heart”: “Stewarding our Hearts” - This theme is of course, persistent in scripture with regards to Praise and worship.
Craig Prompt: Can you begin to think about a way God has laid it on your heart to “Steward Your heart” preferably regarding worship, remembering that our Worship encompasses anything we do for the Glory of Christ Jesus, which you can share with the group once I finish sharing a few scriptures?
Alison’s comment about her new church - they actually sing
Verses on the heart and Worship:
1) Psalm 40:9-11
New American Standard Bible 1995
9 I have proclaimed glad tidings of righteousness in the great congregation;
Behold, I will not restrain my lips,
O Lord, You know.
10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart;
I have spoken of Your faithfulness and Your salvation;
2) Psalm 57:6-8
7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
A Song, a Psalm of David.
Ps 108 My heart is steadfast, O God;
I will sing, I will sing praises, even with my [a]soul.
2 Awake, harp and lyre;
I will awaken the dawn!
3 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples,
And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
Ps 111 Praise the Lord!
V1: I will give thanks to the Lord with all my heart,
In the company of the upright and in the assembly.
2 Great are the works of the Lord;
They are studied by all who delight in them.
(Ps 141:4 That’s why my spirit is growing faint inside me; I have nothing left;
my heart is completely empty and desolate)?
Luke 8:15 Conclude - Parable of the sower:
But some people hear the message and let it take root deeply in receptive hearts made fertile by honesty and goodness. With patient dependability, they bear good fruit. (VOICE).
