Good morning, it is an honour for me to share a devotion.
The Lord has laid in my heart to share with you a single verse, which is Psalm 90:14.
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
This Psalm was written by Moses.
This Psalm is all about confronting us with the sobering reality of human frailty and the shortness of life.
In contrast, our God is everlast from everlasting. He is the eternal and immortal God whom we worship.
Moses reminds us to ask God to teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom (v.12).
Additionally, Moses teaches us to pray this prayer in Psalm 90:14.
First, we are ask to God to satisfy us with His steadfast love.
In the face of fleeting pleasures and temporary fulfillment, we often seek the world to satisfy our needs.
However, Moses gives us a different message.
To satisfy us means to fill us up with His steadfast love or lovingkindness.
The point is that God’s love for His people is a covenant love.
Certainly, as Christians, we are to be satisfied in our saving relationship with Jesus Christ when He began the New Testament by shedding His blood on the cross to save sinners like us.
And we have entered into that covenant love with God through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
And only God’s steadfast love can satisfy our emptiness of hearts.
Second, we are ask God to do this in the morning.
I don’t know what you do the first thing you wake up, but it is a good idea to remember this Psalm.
In the morning, our strength and health are usually at the highest.
The point is that Moses is teaching us to seek after the LORD to satisfy us with His love before we face another day of trial.
Third, when we do ask God to satisfy us with His steadfast love first thing in the morning, the result should be joy and gladness.
It should not be a temporary or momentary joy, but it should be experienced throughout the day of our days.
And that we would joyfully make this day count to the glory of God and not waste it on chasing after the fleeing pleasures of the world.
So, in summary, as we begin our budget meeting, let us ask the LORD to satisfy and fill us with His covenant love.
