3   I hunted all through the four Gospels trying to find one of Christ’s funeral sermons, but I couldn’t find any. I found He broke up every funeral He ever attended! Death couldn’t exist where He was.
D. L. Moody
“The Ninety-First Psalm” sermon (19th century)
Dwight Lyman Moody (Evangelist)
Death is the funeral of all our sorrows.
Thomas Watson
At a funeral we bury something not someone; it is the house not the tenant that is lowered into the grave.
Verna Wright
Judging by what’s said at most funerals, you’d think nearly everyone’s going to Heaven, wouldn’t you? But Jesus made it clear that most people are not going to Heaven: “Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” We dare not “wait and see” when it comes to what’s on the other side of death. We shouldn’t just cross our fingers and hope that our names are written in the Book of Life (Revelation 21:27). We can know, we should know, before we die. And because we may die at any time, we need to know now—not next month or next year.956

If we all lived in the light of our funerals, how well should we live.
Charles Spurgeon
Every funeral anticipates our own.
Michael A. Eaton
Moses my servant has died, so you must wait’? No. ‘You must weep’? No. But, ‘Rise, cross over … into the land.’ Moses may die; God’s promise lives on. There is the passing of an era yet the endurance of the promise. Yahweh’s fidelity does not hinge on the achievements of men, however gifted they may be, nor does it evaporate in the face of funerals or rivers.2
