Introduction

If you have your Bibles we are going to begin with
Colossians 3:15 NIV
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
So next week we have Thanksgiving. It is one of my favorite times of the year. You get to eat a lot of food , be with your family and of course watch football. It is difficult to top that but Christmas is right around the corner. So today we are going to talk about giving thanks to the Father.
What are some things in our life that we should be thankful for?
How do we be thankful? Well we look at this verse here first. The first step to be able to be thankful is that we need to have Jesus in our hearts. Then we are at peace. We are not angry or sad. It is hard to give thanks when we do not have Jesus and His love in our hearts. So step one is having Jesus in our hearts. When our focus is on God above , it is easier to see all the things that we need to be thankful for. When we see the blessings around us, we can take time to appreciate them. Being at peace also means taking time to be in alone time with the Father.
Colossians 3:16 NIV
Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.
Here is all the ways we can let Jesus live in our hearts and how we can always be giving thanks to God. Some people teach us, others write songs. All of us can sing. We do all of these things to fill our hearts. So being at church on Sunday is a great way that we can fill our hearts for Jesus. Because here we worship the Lord and learn about Jesus which helps us make our hearts grow.
Colossians 3:17 NIV
And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Here is an important lesson that we need to understand that Paul gives us. Everything we do, whether it is school work, or sports, or how we treat our family. Everything we do , we do it with Jesus in mind. We do it for Jesus. So , if we are at school and someone says something we might not like. We should forgive that person right? Because Jesus forgave us for our sins.
Or what about how we should treat our family? our brothers and sisters or cousins, grandparents and parents?
But when we do everything for Jesus and we need to keep Jesus on our hearts. How do we see thankfulness all around us? Well like almost everything in life. We practice. So I have a little notebook for each of you. and each day with the help of your parents. I want you to write down 5 things that you are thankful for.
