King Ahaz - King of Judah (capital is Jerusalem)

Judah (tribes of Judah and Benjamin, & the Levites) southern kingdom

Israel (remaining 10 tribes; capital was in Samaria)

Ahaz faced geopolitical stress from an alliance that Israel had formed with Syria to counter the growing influence of Assyria. Rather than trusting God, he formed an alliance with Assyria, which backfired after he plundered the Temple to pay tribute to Assyria and then tried to rebel by following Syrian gods in a coalition against Assyria.
