What Is Condemned
What Is Condemned
The Lord cannot stand evil. Genesis 6:5 “5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” This grieved the Lord to the point that He regretted making mankind. There have been several times where humanity has regretted it’s own creations. The creator of the atomic bomb regretted it’s creation because of the death and destruction caused by it. “I am become death.”
Because of the actions of mankind, God Himself needed to make a correction in the earth. He proceeded to wipe every living creature off the face of the planet save 8 people and a host of animals. This lines up with what we see in Psalm 34:16 “16 The face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.”
Romans 1 and 2 are probably some of the most condemning chapters in the Bible for two reasons. 1. Paul begins going through this concept of unrighteousness and judgment, to the point he begins listing specific things Romans 1:29–32 “29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” Then conviction hits in the beginning of chapter 2 Romans 2:1 “1 Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.”
God is Concerned about the heart
God is Concerned about the heart
As we discussed last week, the Lord cares about the heart and it’s roots. What comes out of the heart the Lord will deal with. Ecclesiastes 12:14 “14 For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.” God knows everything we do. Every thought that runs through our heads, to every action we try to keep hidden from each other. God knows all. On that final day He will open up the book of deeds and the record will be shown.
One day the Pharisees questioned Jesus on why the disciples did not wash their hands before eating. The Lord responded in an unexpected way. Matthew 15:18–20 “18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander. 20 These are what defile a person. But to eat with unwashed hands does not defile anyone.”” The Pharisees were more concerned on keeping their traditions than they were about Godly living, and that is something we can follow dangerously as well. Bad roots turn into bad fruits.
How To Overcome this Sin
How To Overcome this Sin
When dealing with evil in your life, it begins with cleaning house. When Karleigh and I got married I can’t tell you how much stuff we through away. Unused junk, things collecting dust, unusable things. Through it away or donated it. If we are going to overcome our wicked hearts, we need to clean home. Matthew 12:43–45 “43 “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. 44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.””
After spring cleaning is done, make new plans. You need to break the old habits. Isaiah 32:7–8 “7 As for the scoundrel—his devices are evil; he plans wicked schemes to ruin the poor with lying words, even when the plea of the needy is right. 8 But he who is noble plans noble things, and on noble things he stands.”
Put your mind on the things that God has deemed good. Philippians 4:8 “8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
