Six On…One Off

Good morning Church!

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Holiday!!!

Bibles out Exodus 31.

Recap:

Enslaved in Egypt…

God called Moses on Mt Sinai (burning bush)

God rescues His people out of Egypt

HE DESIRES TO DWELL WITH THEM..

Brings them right back to Mt Sinai..

Establishes a covenant with them…

NOW…

Moses is getting a massive TO DO LIST…

Build God’s dwelling place among His people (tabernacle)

Priests to work in the tabernacle

6 chapters full of work that God has commanded

Honey do list?

Its too big…too much..in too little time…

This how Moses has to be feeling…

He is being commanded to build the dwelling place of the Lord…

If you look back at chapters 25-30…this structure is full of gold work, pillars, huge bronze altars…

They are in the middle of a desert wilderness!!!

THIS IS A DAUNTING TASK…EVEN TODAY!!!

I have all the best power tools at my disposal and I couldn’t do this…

MOSES HAS TO BE FEELING OVER WHELMED…

But we don’t see that in the text…why??

Before we see any response from Moses or the people about this command…

God, who knows the hearts of His people, He assures them that this work is in His hands…

As we dive into chapter 31 here is what we will see…

That we as God’s people are called to work for Him…

AND HE ALONE EQUIPS US FOR THE WORK HE HAS CALLED US TO…AND PROVIDES US REST FROM THAT WORK…

LETS GET INTO THE TEXT!!!

STAND, READ ALL OF 31!!

The Lord Equips us for the Work (v. 1-11)

List of work (Tabernacle, everything in it, priestly garments)

All had to be made…

BUT…God first says to Moses before he can freak out…

SEE… Look what I have done!!!

God provided:

He provided the workers

Bezalel and Oholiab

Bezalel- grandson of Hur (who held Moses’s hands up during the battle agains Amalek

Israelites in battle…Moses goes up on a mountain to watch battle…

Realizes that every time he raises his hands the Israelites start winning…but if he lowers them they start losing…

Exodus 17:12 “But Moses’ hands grew weary, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it, while Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side. So his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.”

He also provided all the materials…

Exodus 12:36 “And the Lord had given the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. Thus they plundered the Egyptians.”

God provided…God equipped (“I have filled him with the Spirit of God”)

Application:

+ We are the Church!

2 Corinthians 6:16 “For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.”

+ We are given a work!

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

We are made to glorify God in our works for Him!

What is stopping you?

I am too tired!!!!

The wife, kids, working 60 hours a week, the house, homeschool, sports…

I AM TIRED…I DO THAVE TIME…WHAT ABOUT ME TIME???

I NEED A BREAK!!!

The Lord Provides us with the Rest (v. 12-17)

+ It is holy… (v14) (Points to Jesus)

It is good for you!

+ It is a sign… (v17) (points to the eternal reign of Jesus)

God made this for us…

WHERE DO YOU SEEK TO FIND YOUR REST?

Vacation? Television? Toys (boats, cars, stuff)?

These things might give you a moment of rest…but it always fades…

AND you have to go to great lengths to get them…

They all require some money…so you have to work to rest…

YOU COME BACK NEVER FEELING RESTED…OR YOUR BACK TO BURNT OUT IN 3 DAYS AFTER YOU RETURN….

Jesus says “seek me”

Because of Jesus you can find your rest whenever you need it!

Matthew 12:8 “For the Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.””

Matthew 11:28–30 “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.””

What does it look like to be a Christian???

Saved…Glorify…Rest

BIG IDEA: The life of a true Christ follower is full of God glorifying work, and Christ dependent rest.

looking for a way to start working for the Lord? (serve team, low hanging fruit)

Looking for rest? (Seek Jesus)

LETS PRAY!
