Introduction

Although Christmas is not necessarily a biblical concept, i believe it is still worthwhile celebrating. Because it offers us the opportunity pause and reflect on who Jesus is and what exactly we are celebrating.
In the next couple of weeks we shall be exploring through the lenses of this verse Isa 9:6 the identity, Nature and Character of Jesus Christ.
Our focus for the purpose of today’s teaching will be His identity
for unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given

...... a Child is born

Although is sounds like words are just at play here, but on closer look you will notice the emphasis are deliberate and distinct in nature.
Child is human
You might be asking what is the big deal about that.
The earth is given to man
No one even God will not operate on earth without a human body.
Genesis 1:26 NKJV
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
Psalm 8:6 NKJV
You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,
Psalm 115:16 NKJV
The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.
Hebrews 2:8 NKJV
You have put all things in subjection under his feet.” For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.

The problem

There was no man God could use
Psalm 14:2–3 NKJV
The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.
Psalm 53:1–3 NKJV
The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good. God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Every one of them has turned aside; They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 NKJV
For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin.
Romans 3:23 NKJV
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

Fully Human, Fully God

Luke 1:26–35 NKJV
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

The gift of the Son

Galatians 4:1–7 NKJV
Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, does not differ at all from a slave, though he is master of all, but is under guardians and stewards until the time appointed by the father. Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
John 3:16 NKJV
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
1 John 4:9–11 NKJV
In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
