Witnesses and inspired Testimony (Lesson 40) 1/14/25 Do this along with (Lesson 41) Paul and Promise

Introduction:

* All throughout the New Testament you can find sufficient evidence and proclamations that state Jesus was born, and He is called the Christ.
* This lesson will be focusing on the testimony, the proclamations of the witnesses of Jesus birth, the fulfillment of the spiritual seed promise that was made to Abraham.

Aim:

* To look at the New Testament passages that reveal God’s revelation related to Jesus, the Christ.
* To have a deeper understanding and appreciation that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies that declared the birth in a miraculously way.
* Gabriel, an angel of the Lord will bear witness.
* Others will testify concerning the seed of woman, the spiritual seed, the fulfillment of the prophesy.

Outline:

1. Gabriel, an angel of the Lord (Lk1:5-20, 26-38; 2:10-13, and Mt1:20-25)
1. The revelation to Joseph after the angel spoke to Mary (Mt1:20-25)
1. The child’s birth (v.20)
2. The child’s name (v.21a)
3. The child’s mission (v.21b)
4. The child’s origin (vv.22-23)
2. The inspired Testimony
1. “That which is conceived is of the Holy Spirit” (v.20)
2. “She will bring forth a son” (v.21a)
3. “He shall be called Jesus (v.21b)
4. “He will save His people (v.21c)
5. “This all took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet (v.22)
6. “They shall call Him Emmanuel (God is with us) (v.23)
2. How about the revelation to Zacharias. (Lk1:5-20)
1. We have Luke’s decree (vv.5-10)
2. We have Gabriel’s declaration (vv.11-17)
3. We also have Zacharias doubt (vv.18-20)
4. The inspirited testimony to Zacharias
1. Your wife will bear a son (v.13a)
2. You shall call him John (v.13b)
3. You will have great joy at his birth (v.14)
4. He will be great in the sight of the Lord (v.15a)
5. He shall not drink strong drink (v.15b)
6. He shall be filled with the Holy Spirit (v.15c)
7. He will turn back many to the Lord God (v.16)
1. Be sure to emphasis that this is “Israel” that will be turned back.
8. He will go in the spirit and power of Elijah and prepare the people for the coming of the Lord (v.17)
3. Revelation to Mary (Lk1:26-38)
1. The virgin is favored, some say highly favored (v.28)
2. The favored one will bear a kingly son and Savior (vv.30-32)
3. While she had questions, the question is answered (vv.33-37)
4. And, we see the virgins response, her resolve (v.38)
5. The inspired testimony.
1. You are favored, the Lord is with You (v.28)
2. You have found favor with God (v.30)
3. You will bear a son (v.31a)
4. You shall name His Jesus (v.32b)
5. The Holy Spirit will be upon you (v.35a)
6. The child will be called Son of God (v.35b)
6. Concerning Jesus, the virgin’s Son
1. He will be called Jesus (v.31)
2. He shall be great (v.32a)
3. He shall be Son of the Most High (v.32b)
4. He shall receive the throne of David from God (v.32c)
5. He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever (v.33a)
6. There will be no end to his kingdom (v.33b)
4. Revelation to the shepherds (Lk2:8-14)
1. Salutation of the angel (vv.8-10)
2. Statement of the angel (v.11)
3. Sign of the angel (v.12)
4. Singing of the angels (vv.13-14)
5. Then there is the inspired testimony
1. I bring good tidings, great joy (v.10)
2. This day is born to you Christ the Lord, Savior (v.11)
3. Here is a sign, you will find the babe wrapped in cloths lying in a manger (v.12)
5. Others who testified of the historical birth of Jesus
1. Elizabeth (Lk1:24-25, 41-44)
2. Mary, mother of Jesus (Lk1:46-55)
3. Simeon (Lk2:25-35)
4. Anna (Lk2:36-38)

Conclusion:

* This Jesus who was born of a virgin is testified to be the one of the Old Testament scriptures.
* This Jesus is confirmed by the New Testament revelation to be the one who is:
* Called Immanuel
* Called Jesus
* Called Son of the Most High God
* Receives an everlasting kingship and kingdom
* And this witness is true (Jn5:30-47)

Paul’s sermon on promise (Lesson 41)

Introduction:

* Be familiar with Act13:16-41 for Paul’s sermon and his historical traces of the promise to its fulfillment in Christ Jesus.
* In Paul’s tracing the promise also shows us the way He preaches Jesus Christ.

Aim:

* To gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Paul’s inspired insight of Jesus and the promise of God.
* To grasp the relationship of the historical promise and the preaching of the fulfillment of that promise in Christ Jesus as Savior.

Outline:

1. A brief outline of the text
1. The history of Jesus leads to Jesus (vv.16-25)
2. The promise is fulfilled to Israel in the resurrection of Jesus (vv.26-37)
3. The forgiveness of sins and justification is found only in Jesus (vv.38-41()
2. Analysis “Israel has a Savior, Jesus.” (Act13:16-41)
1. God’s care in providence (vv.16-19)
2. God’s truth in prophesy (vv.20-22)
3. God’s faithfulness in promise (vv.23, and 32)
4. God’s prophet in preparation (vv.24-25)
5. God’s purpose in predetermination (vv.26-29)
6. God’s strength in power (vv.30-37)
7. God’s love in propitiation (vv.38-39)
8. God’s justice and premonition (vv.40-41)
3. Tracing the promise
1. From Egyptian exodus (vv.16-17)
2. To wilderness wandering (v.18)
3. To conquest and inheritance (v.19)
4. To the judges and Samuel (v.20)
5. To the beginning of Kings - Saul (v.21)
6. To David’s throne (vv.22-23)
7. To John the forerunner (vv.24-25)
8. To Jesus crucified (vv.26-28)

4. The promise, the same God fulfilled (Act13:26, 32)
1. It was the promise made unto the fathers
2. The same God fulfilled unto our children in that God raised up Jesus.
Paul’s claim was based on the word of God. It was on the word he was able to bring good tidings, the good news, the gospel). It was because of this he proclaimed remission of sins through Jesus Christ and that Justification of all things is only by faith in Him, and not by the law of Moses and the prophets)

Conclusion:

* Jesus is the Christ of the Old Testament history and prophesy; He is the Savior and Lord!
* The promises and the prophesies are realized and fulfilled in Him, His resurrection is evidences to the apostolic preaching of the cross. Of Christ and Him crucified for our sins.
