The Blessings of the New Birth.wps
*Blessings of the New Birth.
1 Peter 1:3
I. It was procured by the Abundant Mercy of God.
A. Extended to the vessels of mercy. (Romans 9:23)
B. Revealed in His love for us. (Ephesians 2:4)
II. It is Manifested unto a Lively Hope.
/The preposition unto , is literally into (eis) . That is, we are “born again” into a lively hope. Peter Grudem one of the contributors to the “Tyndale N.T. Commentary” , says, “ It is living - by so describing it Peter indicates that it grows and increases in strength year by year.” (1 Peter P.55)
It is an interesting concept - We speak of the Bible as the living Word of God. (Heb. 4:12) and thus we read and study with an expectation of it speaking to us.

A. We are like the Word, spiritually.
1) We are alive.
1) We are alive.2) We are growing.
Man is born in this physical world, spiritually dead, and will remain that way unless he is reborn.
B. There is an expectation in our new life in Christ.
1) To be closer to Him today than yesterday.
2) To grow in grace and improve in.
a)) character
b)) honour
c)) humility
III. It is Effected by the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.
/The greatest picture we have of this unique proclamation is the example and practice of Baptism.
Romans 6:4-11 details what Peter touches upon here.
Paul makes comparisons between the believer and Christ. Since we are part of the Body of Christ and in Christ and He in us, the comparisons are meant to show that there is no difference between us in this new life.
A. Jesus was crucified and our old man was crucified in Him. Vs.6
1) The body of sin might be destroyed. (Mortify the deeds of the flesh)2) From the moment of this destruction, we no longer serve sin.
3) Whoever was crucified in Christ is dead in Christ, and dead to sin.
B. Jesus was resurrected and we have been resurrected with Him. Vs.8
1) He died once and we died once.
2) He lives and we live (in new life)
3) Because Christ died and rose again, death has no more power over Him. Likewise in our case.
C. Because of the flesh, consider these things to be done.
1) That we are every bit like Christ, now.
2) That we henceforth live unto God.
*Conclusion:
How can anyone see the abundant grace of God and turn from it?
How can there be any peace in your life, or reason to live, if you turn from His free gift of a new life in Christ?
How can Christians knowing these things not live unto Him who has given so much to them?
