LIFE STORY
Danny Kinslow, born February 9, 1959 in Neosho, MO, went home to be with our Lord November 11, 2024, at home here in Kansas City, MO, at the age of 65 years, 9 months, and 26 days.
Danny graduated from Winnetonka High School in 1977. That year is also the year in which he married the love of his life, Cindy—this year being the 47th anniversary of their wedding.
SONG [The Best of Times - Styx]
To their home, God added their son, Scott (great name by the way).
SONG [Watchin’ Scotty Grow - Bobby Goldsboro]
Danny lived in the Kansas City area for over 60 years. Throughout many of those years Danny liked to work and play hard. He also had a hobby, an interest, which we shared—classic cars. We often talked about his amazing red 1939 Chevy and my black cherry 1968 Chevelle.
Danny was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan. Which is why I have on my Dallas Cowboys shirt today. When I’d go with Roger from our church to check in with Danny, I just couldn’t help but attempt to provoke a conversation (response) on a regular basis (which he would also take opportunity to instigate in other ways, too!).
He was preceded in death by: his parents; his brothers, Joe Kinslow and Charles L. Kinslow; and his sister, Linda Kinslow Branum.
Survivors include: his wife, Cindy Kinslow; his son, Scott Kinslow; and his brother, Gary Kinslow.

MESSAGE
When we gather together on days like today, I believe it is for two important purposes— ONE, to celebrate the life of our loved one and friend who has died…to honor his life, to share…humorous stories, sentimental stories - cherished memories; and TWO, to make much of our Lord and his promises from his word…to all his children—all who have placed our faith and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. We find those promises in God’s word.
In the Bible we find an account in the Gospel written by Luke (a favorite at Christmastime…who also wrote about the grand reason Jesus’ birth was necessary (what we celebrate at Easter) which takes place during Easter Week, specifically while Jesus is on the cross:
Two others—criminals—were also led away to be executed with him. When they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.
Then one of the criminals hanging there began to yell insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other answered, rebuking him: “Don’t you even fear God, since you are undergoing the same punishment? We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And he said to him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
Why do I share that story with you today? Well, in many ways I see a reflection of Danny in the criminal on the cross. One who, through our conversations…and one quite recently (only about a week before he died)…saw himself as unworthy (at first; …or unable) to be forgiven, like that criminal who saw the righteousness of God and his own unrighteousness (the acts for which he was justly being punished). Danny and I talked and I believe he—like that criminal on the cross—saw his need for Jesus to be his Savior and Lord…and Danny struggled with believing that God could (would) forgive him. I just happen to believe that if God can forgive that criminal on the cross, then God can forgive any of us who will turn to him repenting of our sin and trusting, following Jesus with whatever remains of our lives.
If you’re here today and you haven’t thought about what happens when/after you die (or have heard but haven’t ever done anything in response to what you’ve heard about eternity, heaven, hell), now (soon) would be a really good time to ask questions, and invest serious thought into this truly “big picture” decision we all face. I am available to talk with anyone who would like to pursue this matter further. Catch me before you leave and let’s set up a time to get together and talk.
In so many varying ways, our God is good…all the time. The blessings of valued relationships—like the various blessings from our relationship with Danny having been a part of our lives.
At this time, I invite everyone to join with me in praying the Lord’s Prayer…together:
LORD’S PRAYER:
Matthew 6:9–13 (KJV)
Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
