Sermon Notes : Let Jesus have His Throne
A King is Coming
Jesus Christ was prophesied to be born.
A prophesied king
A little over six thousand years ago, a savior was prophesied to be born. To crush the head of Satan and liberate us from our bonds of sin. As history progressed the veil was lifted more and more revealing who the savior would be, where he’d be born, and what he’d do. Amidst the prophesies was the mystery that Jesus would first be born to save mankind spiritually. Later he will establish is earthly reign.
A savior is born
Jesus was born in humble circumstances. Making himself know firstly to the least of these. Even the greatest upon finding out about him wanted to kill him or worship him.
Thesis

Prophecies of Jesus Christ as King
Daniel 7:13–14 (KJV 1900)
13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
Isaiah 9:6–7 (KJV 1900)
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
The Humble Virgin Birth of Jesus the Christ.
Mary and Joseph had just been espoused… Then the angel came
Luke 1:27–35 (KJV 1900)
27To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary.
28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Matthew 1:20–23 (KJV 1900)
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
The prophecy of the virgin birth.
Isaiah 7:14 (KJV 1900)
14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.
14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, And shall call his name Immanuel.

The character of the King Herod
Herod became a paranoid tyrant, worried that he would lose his kingdom11 Melton B. Winstead, “Herod the Great,” ed. John D. Barry et al., The Lexham Bible Dictionary (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2016).
Josephus recorded Herod’s execution of his two sons due to rumors of mutiny: “He also sent his sons to Sebaste, a city not far from Caesarea, and ordered them to be there strangled … And this was the end of Alexander and Aristobulus”11 Melton B. Winstead, “Herod the Great,” ed. John D. Barry et al., The Lexham Bible Dictionary (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2016).
According to Josephus, Herod was so protective of his favorite wife, Mariamme I, that he instructed his soldiers to kill her if anything were to happen to him while traveling abroad.11 Melton B. Winstead, “Herod the Great,” ed. John D. Barry et al., The Lexham Bible Dictionary (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2016).
Herod later ordered the execution of two of his sons with Mariamme I, Alexander and Aristobulus, over suspicion that they were jockeying for his position as ruler of the kingdom.11 Melton B. Winstead, “Herod the Great,” ed. John D. Barry et al., The Lexham Bible Dictionary (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2016).
Herod issued two commands to be performed upon his death:
1. To execute the recently imprisoned Jewish elders so that the people would be mourning during his death.
2. To execute his son Antipater.11 Melton B. Winstead, “Herod the Great,” ed. John D. Barry et al., The Lexham Bible Dictionary (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2016).
The Response of the King Herod [V3]
Fear -
Herod demand where “Christ would be born”… Not king of the jews, not the child, but rather “Christ”… King Herod knew that Jesus was THE CHRIST
The Facade of King Herod [V4,7-8,13b,16-18]
In fear of losing His possission to the one it rightfullly belonged to.
lying of his intentions 7-8
He called them privately[6]
Herod’s true intentions revealed. 13b
Comparison to us today… We recieve Christ as savior, but we hold back what should be rightfully His in our lives.
We do not belong to others
22 For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.
23 Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.
24 Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God.
We do not belong to ourselves.
18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

A desire to worship
They travelled a considerable distance.
Their reaction was not of trouble or fear…
they could have been concerned… but rather it was joyful.
What is our reaction to know there is a savior… who desires to save us. to be our Lord and King.
Matthew 1:20-21 Matthew 1:20–21 (KJV 1900)

John 1:10–14 (KJV 1900)
10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

They desired so they followed the star
The Response of the wise men [V.9-10]
They recieved direction from herod’s wise men… quoting Micah (v.4-6)
Micah 5:2 (KJV 1900)

2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, Though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
They followed the Star and arrived under oit with joy

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, And as a root out of a dry ground: He hath no form nor comeliness; And when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
Gold.. his royalty.
Frankinsence .. his sweet smelling sacrifice to the Lord
Myrre… an embalming spice… also is the gall that was mixed with wine on the cross… which he denied… He suffurred and died and paid the penalty.
They obeyed the Lord… preserving the Child… But Herod had what he thought he needed to do away with the christ child
Does the King have a place in your heart and life?
Does the King have a place in your heart and life?
Will Jesus have His throne in your heart?
Herod knowing when the star appeard knew the age of the messiah… and wanted Him dead… knowing he was the one and only Christ…..
Will will give Jesus His throne in our lives… or deny Him a place… Rejecting salvation or rejecting what we once gave him and refuse to worship him
Isaiah 9:6-7 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: And the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, Upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, To order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice From henceforth even for ever.
