A. Warnings to the crowds and disciples
about the scribes and Pharisees (vv. 1-12)
➡ Do what they say, but not the works they do (v. 3a-b)
1. They say, but never do (v. 3c)
2. They create burdensome rules (v. 4)
3. They crave human approval (vv. 5-7)
• ‘showing off’ their religious devotion

2. You make people spiritually worse (v. 15)
3. You deceive with your words (vv. 16-22)

5. You purify the outside, but are filthy inside (v. 25-26)
6. You are outwardly righteous, but inwardly sinful (vv. 27-28)
7. You murder God’s servants (vv. 29-36)
