Series Intro
Isaiah 9:6 (NLT)
6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Jesus is our mighty God
Weird dissonance when we picture Mary holding a tiny infant at Christmas / The Mighty God made himself vulnerable and dependant on others.
But Jesus is our Mighty God.
Jesus was so mighty, he created and shaped the cosmos
Jesus was so mighty, he created and shaped the cosmos
15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He 2existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
Jesus was so mighty, he could bend nature to his will.

John 10:17–18 (NLT)
17 “The Father loves me because I sacrifice my life so I may take it back again. 18 No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily. For I have the authority to lay it down when I want to and also to take it up again. For this is what my Father has commanded.”

In our series verse of Isaiah 9:6, Israel was about to walk through a great darkness, the conquest of their nation by Assyria. But out of that darkness, Isaiah prophecied about the Messiah and how even as a child, he would be called wonderful counselor, mighty God, everlasting father, and prince of peace.
Jesus is the fulfillment of that prophecy - he is the one who created the cosmos, who bent nature to his will and who gave himself for you. He is the mighty God and he is for you.
Because Jesus is in you and is with you, God gives you power to overcome your addictions and become free in Christ.
He gives you power to let go of your past traumas - to stop letting them define you.
He gives you power to do miracles like forgive your enemy, love the unlovable, be an agent of hope and healing in someone’s life.
Jesus- our mighty God - can heal your broken heart, your jaded soul, and your hurting body.
He can mend your marriage, fix your workplace, and strengthen your friendships
He can renew your mind, meet your needs and restore your soul.
My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there is nothing my God cannot do, for you.
Conclusion
The power of Christ compels us (The Exorcist movie reference)
to what? - to have faith that God is for you, not against you. To have faith that he hears your prayers and will respond with his extravagant love for you. To have faith that because he came as a child, he will come again on the clouds and
