Have you watched a movie trailer that was so good and you where super excited to watch but then when you watched the movie it was not great? I think the same happens to us with social media, we like to post our highlight reels or these clips of our lives and sometimes pretend that our lives are perfect but maybe sometimes they are not. Or on the other hand we look at social media and we see our friends or family and they look like they are perfect, when in reality they are not.
We are going to look at a verse in scripture that has convicted me a lot lately and maybe it will convict you too.
We are going to talk a bit specific to social media, but this really applies to any area of life. Not only your social media presence. Because I know there is some of you here that don’t use social media yet.
Lets open up and read Galatian 1:1-12

Stay True to the Gospel

Scripture Focus: Galatians 1:6-9
Paul warns against turning to a different gospel or being swayed by others.
In a world of influencers and trends, it’s easy to let social media influence our values.
Jake Paul - Mike Tyson who watched that fight? Talk on how so many are influenced.
Social media can promote both good and bad messages and the importance of filtering them through the truth of the Gospel. 2 Timothy 4:3-4: "For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."

The Approval Trap

Scripture Focus: Galatians 1:10
Paul challenges us to consider whether we’re seeking approval from people or God.
Anyone want to leet me use their instagram profile as an example? I wont do that to you, we will look at mine.
(Talk through my highlights and struggles)
Social media often pulls us into a cycle of seeking likes, followers, and validation.
When you are using social media do you use it for comparison? "Who are you really trying to please when you post online?" Colossians 3:23-24: "Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."

Use Your Platform to Serve Christ

Scripture Focus: Galatians 1:11-12
Paul received his message from Christ, not people. We can use social media as a platform to share Christ’s message, not just our own.
Use social media to build others up instead of tearing them down.
Philippians 2:15-16: "That you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life."
