Message Intro:
Why Behold Him?
We want to understand Jesus.. Set the backdrop, and then watch Jesus live it out through the Gospel of Mark.
This is what the Isaiah passage is… (Some say google)
Last Week Wonderful Counselor…. Praising God for the ways he worked!
this week Mighty God.
This morning we will not be able to fully cover this topic but we are going to tackle three questions:
What does it mean to be mighty?
Why is it important Jesus is mighty?
How does Jesus display his might?

Big Idea: Jesus is a mighty God.

Isaiah 9:6–7 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

What does it mean to be mighty?

Definition: Might = strength, or powerful.
Mighty = Adjective used to describe someone that is strong and powerful
Mighty Joe Young (gurrilla) = Display of Strength. Mighty Morphing Power Rangers.
Don’t gloss over this… What is the adjective attached too? (God)
describing a powerful God.
God : the supreme or ultimate reality: such as. a. : the being perfect in power, wisdom, and goodness who is worshipped (as in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism) as creator and ruler of the universe.
We said this last week… Isaiah is trying to get across that the messiah to come is the best…. Jesus is always the best.
This word (Mighty) shows up 263 times in the bible and it is always used to describe a power differential.
Everything has limited capacity for might apart from God.
King Herod, King Ahaz, Ceasar.
Their might is limited.
It is important that God is mighty simply… because we have limited power and strength.
Body Builders… Watching Ronnie Coleman and Arnold S.
Saying that Jesus is a mighty God is to say that he is more powerful than anything we can fathom….
Psalm 95:3–7 (ESV)
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
Deuteronomy 10:17 ESV
For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who is not partial and takes no bribe.
Nehemiah 9:32 ESV
“Now, therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and steadfast love, let not all the hardship seem little to you that has come upon us, upon our kings, our princes, our priests, our prophets, our fathers, and all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day.
Transition: We worship a mighty God! Why is this so important… I am going to give you four reasons for what Jesus’ might allows him to accomplish.

Why is it important Jesus is mighty?

We have established the Christian belief that Jesus is mighty.. but how does it affect you and I?
Without Jesus being mighty… all of this would be for naught.
I am going to give you the most important reasons… and there could be so many more.

1. He has devine power and authority

complete power and authority without might is a problem…
with it… we can trust that jesus will accomplish what he sets out too.
A. Creator and Sustainer: Jesus was involved in creation.
John 1:1 ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Colossians 1:16–17 ESV
For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
B. His power displayed through Miracles and Signs: His earthly ministry displayed power over nature, disease, demons, and even death (Mark 4:39, John 11:43-44).
C. Authority to Judge and Reign
Jesus has been given authority to judge the world (John 5:22) and will reign as King forever (Revelation 19:16).
Transition: Which leads me into the second reason it is important Jesus is mighty.

2. He is victorious over sin and death.

Jesus' death and resurrection demonstrate His power over sin and the grave (1 Corinthians 15:55-57).
He offers salvation and eternal life to all who believe in Him (John 3:16).
He is mighty to save, providing refuge, protection, and eternal security for His people (Zephaniah 3:17, Hebrews 7:25).

How does Jesus display his might?

Lets Behold Jesus.
If you are familiar with the Bible, I have no problem with you writing down now stories of Jesus might that come to your mind.
However, I know some of us are newer to the bible so let me give you some examples and their reference point.

1. Devine Authority Displayed

Power over nature: Calming the Storm (Mark 4:35-41): Jesus sleeping on the boat… wakes up and tells the storm to stop.
Feeding the 5,000 (Matthew 14:13-21): Jesus feeds an intire crowd with 2 fish and five loaves of bread.
Power to heal: Healing the Paralytic (Mark 2:1-12): 4 friends bring this man to see Jesus. rise pick up your things and go home.
Power over the demonic: Casting Out a Legion of Demons (Mark 5:1-20): Jesus drives out a multitude of demons from a man, sending them into a herd of pigs. The man is restored to his right mind, showing Jesus' supreme authority over evil spirits.

2. Victory over Sin and Death

Raising Lazarus (John 11:1-44): After Lazarus had been dead for four days, Jesus calls him out of the tomb, demonstrating His power over death and foreshadowing His own resurrection.
Raising Jairus' Daughter (Mark 5:35-43): Jesus brings a young girl back to life, comforting her family and revealing His compassion and might.
Jesus conquers death himself.
John 3:16 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
