Out of the Grave, Into Grace

Romans 6:1-11

If you knew you could not fail, what would you attempt to do for the glory of God and the growth of his kingdom?

We have been Justified through the work of Christ,

We have seen this as a legal matter our sins paid for and yet today we will see that it is also a living matter.

This text begins with a question that arises from

Romans 5:20 “The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,”

Simply put should a Christian continue to sin in order that the effect of grace would be given as much opportunity to be seen by others?

This sounds like a strange question, but I am here today to encourage us that though we may not think this way some of us may be living this way.

Selfishness- my life, my sin, where our lives are to always point to Christ- His work, what He wants,

Sin came at a great cost- there is no reason to stay in it other than we do not want to surrender- this is a battle we will go through. God is revealing even today where you are holding onto sin.

As a believer we are to know about the mighty power of the justification of Christ there is a new way to live, not bound by the grave (sin) but by the freedom of grace (Justification)

Today what we are provided with a great application that we must not only know but believe and apply to our hearts.

That there is a new life that is offered through Christ yes to the unbeliever as well as those who have accepted Christ. Some of us have never moved passed our initial decision to accept (Grace Abounded)

I am convinced this is what has caused the issues in our lives- we aren’t living that much further on faith- Remember Paul is teaching us justification by faith- there is no area of our live that will not take us having faith- God sees the outcome in all these areas and He is good to be gracious to us.

Singleness- we need faith

do we sin in our singleness- yes

I remember going back when I was trying to hard

got me in trouble

Married life- we need faith

do we sin in our marriage

you cant fix your spouse but you can faith in the Lord is doing a work

Parenting- we need faith

do we sin in our parenting

When we do not operate in grace and try to control

Job- we need faith

do we sin in our job

when we try to get ahead and not have faith that God is taking you into His will

1. VS 1-3 The question(s)

We- Who is the we

Continue in sin

what a unfortunate way to live- knowing that our father will forgive we continue to sin

This is not what God has for any of us

Because of Christ- not anything we have done

Christ has made the way

if we will rely on ourselves then it will be in vain- the greatest we have outside of Christ is complete sinful behavior

Died to sin-

This is the commitment we are going into when it comes to a relationship with Jesus

Are you unaware?

this is the cause of the thought concerning sin and grace- when we remain ignorant Satan is able to ensnare us

It is a necessity to live by faith if not we remain ignorant

Time to get real with you today- when we continue in our own way we are remaining ignorant-

If you were to ask me how this all is going to turn out I couldn’t give you any details

As a church we are in a time when our faith must become real-

Things are not what they have been in the past- this is good, I ask that you join with me in exercising your faith- God is taking us through this time so we will not remain unaware of His goodness, His power, His desire for us to draw close and not pursue sin in order that grace may abound- What must be seen from the church of Foothills Calvary are lives of faith. God will get the Glory.

This has been my prayer as hard as it is for me- Because church I am try to fix it kind of Guy- what can I do.

How you ever been there- You know when the Lord calls us into leadership in some avenue and I believe you are all called or have been called to lead somewhere- maybe not what the world would define as a big leadership role

But I am here to tell you that I hope and pray you would find great joy in where God has called you to lead and as He brings the increase He will guide you.

Baptized into Christ Jesus\ His death

Leadership and Dependance upon Jesus

from self dependance to self surrender, from the grave into grace

Israel did the same with Moses

1 Corinthians 10:2 “and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;”

This is when the Israelites trusted Moses like never before

Remember captivity to being lead to the promise land- We will see at the end of our passage our call to do the same

2. VS 4-10 The Answer

This is the reminder of the work of the Justification- we are only able to live righteously because of the work of Christ.

United with Christ

We were buried with Him by Baptism

End of the Old Man into the newness of life

1 Corinthians 15:3–4 “For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”

We are able because of Christ to walk in this newness of life

Galatians 2:20 “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

Got rid of the old relationship that was governed by Adam

Sin wants to be our master- Our bodies will be ruled, we were created to serve God, Sin desires to rule our bodies.

Galatians 5:24 “Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.”

This is the fight- I know the sun is shinny, you may have all you need, but there is a fight for your life.

This divine action- The God who raised Christ from the dead has imparted unto us life and that of everlasting life.

When there is a life change we relate to Christ- look to him follow his example, lean on him

Not in our own way but His

Ask the Holy Spirit

Faith- how we please God

Works- When God answers be obedient

God makes it clear- be obedient. He is faithful to answer

This is one of the questions we need to know- when it comes to God.

Even if it isn't what you want or think you want

United in His death and Resurrection

Know- that sin is rendered powerless, no longer enslaved

This is only possible through Christ

Ephesians 1:15–17 “For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all the saints, do not cease giving thanks for you, while making mention of you in my prayers; that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.”

God does the work through the Holy spirit we are lacking he is not

Today we may feel we are not capable we have done something so wrong- God is working

How will we know when we live by faith- when it is evident God is the one getting the glory

He is revealing, He is leading

sin ensnares us to doubt, to plan, to do everything we can to escape what God wants to do in our life.

how do we give it power- lack of faith, apart from this new life

3. The Faith vs 11

The faith here that is presented is not about us but to place our faith fully in the very notion that what Christ has done is true.

Keeping our eyes on Christ, when tempted, when doubting, we things are tough. We reckon our faith unto the Lord.

This is where the rubber meats the road per-say- authentic Christianity, this is where we will be able to stand strong together in times of trials, this is where we persevere, that Christianity goes beyond our knowledge- Paul makes it a point that we know- Here is the point that we believe.

Reckoning- acting upon the fact

we are missing out- it is still true no matter what we do!

I am convinced that one of the problems you and I face is leaving here and doubting that what we heard is true.

It actually is evident- when we choose to be any other place than in the presence of God.

He will be victorious- He cares for us- We are nothing special in the worlds eyes but in God’s we truly are worth the cost of His son- His work is not done in you. Wherever you go He will work on you. I would love if it would be here, but you are not mine you are the Lords

Do we believe what God’s word is true.

My wife and I had a heart to heart this past week.

I am up here as your pastor at times doubting, but you know what I have found in God’s goodness he places others with strong faith in your life that we can look too.

I know of us have said I have had strong faith moving up here, but I believe my wife has had the strongest faith, in times of doubt and discouragement she has been our rock.

It may be for some of you here today that you must actually believe what God’s word is true that you are no longer in slaved to sin you have been set free. When we are set free we bear the fruit of the work of God in our lives

Romans 7:4 “Therefore, my brethren, you also were made to die to the Law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, to Him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.”

The reckoning takes what we know and transmits it to our heart!
