#1 The Creator God
The Creator God
In the Beginning
The opening verses of the Bible describe God creating the world.
There is no philosophical argument about: “Does God exist?” The Bible nowhere attempts to “prove” the existence of God. The Bible assumes God’s existence. It opens immediately by stating:
“In the beginning God …”
Genesis 1:1
God as Creator
The Bible teaches that God created our universe out of nothing – that he is the Creator of all human life. Genesis asserts:
“God created man
in his own image,
in the image of God
he created him;
male and female
he created them.”
Genesis 1:27
God is Called Creator
The title, Creator, is given to God in several places in the Bible.
“Remember your Creator.”
Ecclesiastes 12:1
“They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is for ever praised. Amen.”
Romans 1:25
“Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.”
Isaiah 40:28
God’s Purpose in Creation
Why did God create the world and everything that lives in it? It’s not really possible to think of God existing if he could not express:
• his creative power
“For by him [God] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.”
Colossians 1:15–16
• his authority and wisdom
“But God made the earth by his power;
he founded the world by his wisdom
and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.”
Jeremiah 10:11–12
• his love
“I provide [for] … the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.”
Isaiah 43:20–21
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”
Jeremiah 31:3
