Built on the rock

Matthew 7:24–27 (ESV)

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.

27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

What do we believe

Does what we believe affect our lives

Are we the foolish man or are we the wise man

John 15:5 ESV

5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

The difference between the foolish man and the righteous man wasn't the message that they heard it was how they applied it to their lives

The Wise man heard the message that Jesus gave and applied it to his life whereas the foolish man heard the message Jesus gave and proceeded to live the way he wanted

The reality for you and me tonight is we will hear things about God throughout our lives

But if we just believe in them or acknowledge them to be true but don't apply them to our life then there is no real fruit

It's not just about my knowledge of God it's not just about what I believe about God it's about my relationship with God

So my question to you tonight is number one do you understand who Jesus is do you understand his love for you and his desire for you to be saved from judgment

And if you understand that and if you have heard that and if you believe in that is there evidence of that in your life

Is your life built on the foundation of Jesus and does your life reflect Jesus

6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

Do we walk in the way Jesus walked do we obey his teachings

Psalm 119:9 (ESV)

9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
