Introduction

The angelic appearances are an integral part of the story of Christ’s birth. They set the stage for each introduction to the characters that make up what we now know as the Christmas Story.
Last week we were introduced to Zacharias and Elizabeth and their son John who was to be the forerunner of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. While not exactly connected to Christmas that angelic appearance and the birth of John that was foretold would later set the scene for Christ’s introduction to the world by the forerunner.
This morning we will look at the appearance of Gabriel to Mary the mother of Jesus.

Why Did God Choose Mary?

She was Favoured

Luke 1:28 KJV 1900
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

She was Blessed

Luke 1:28 KJV 1900
And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

She was Willing

Luke 1:38 KJV 1900
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Gabriel begins his message by telling her what God thought of her and why she had been chosen for this great task and then he tells us about the baby that would be born to Mary.
