Luke 2:1–7 ESV
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Christmas: Most wonderful time of the year.
-Lights, Presents, Cheer.
What I love most is the whole world hears the message of Jesus Christ! You cant even say Christmas without it
In this season we see the nativity scene everywhere! People have to decide what they are going to do with the crib of Christ. (Do I believe or not)

The King of Kings Arrived in a Manger???

-Not a Gold Plated Bed
-Not even a cradle wise
I remember the first kiddo, Sadie when we were expecting her we prepared. We had the honest diaper subscription, we had like three baby showers (1st granddaughter on both sides)
*If my daughter had everything and more why didnt Jesus get the same treatment or even more than Sadie!?!
Mary and Joseph didnt even get the Steak and Lobster the hospital gives! (Instead they had an aroma)
THERE IS PURPOSE TO THE MANGER
WHY THE MANGER?

1. The Manger is a reminder of our need for His strength.

LATIN WORD “Manger” mandere (TO EAT)
Bethlehem in Hebrew means “House of Bread”
John 6:35 ESV
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.
“Jesus is your source of Strength…” When your hungry come to me to eat.
Stop looking around through sin, or your job, or relationships.
“whoever COMES to me shall not hunger”
not a one time event, keep coming back to Jesus!
When Jesus teaches how to pray he says give us this day our what??? DAILY BREAD
Thats why the church is important, if you come twice a year you will starve to death!
THE BARNYARD ANIMALS know where to go…
State Fair: There is food everywhere at the petting ZOO, the floor is covered yet the animals know where the good stuff is…. in the manger
We have to keep going back to know what is the true source of Daily Bread.
If the Animals can do it, we can do it!!!
If you want Gas where do you go?
If you want Groceries where do you go?
If you need healing, joy, peace. You know where to go!

2. The manger is a reminder for our need for restoration.

Being born in a stable, we have a farm before and I didn't want to walk in the stables or get chicken eggs because its so gross. POOP is everywhere.
A manger is just used for food so I imagine the one Jesus laid in was a little rough around the edges?
Doesnt that remind you of the state you were in when Jesus found you?
You were full of junk and issues.
you were dirty, Then Jesus saw you!
He could of looked at you and said I cant live there…
But he saw me not for who I was but he saw me for who I was going to be!
-Yall dont know me before Jesus…
-Pride
-Lust
-Green Mowhawk
Manger: Do we remember this as a feeding trough, NO, we remember it as a Crib fit for a king.
When Christ enters your heart people wont remember you for who you were, He changes you.
2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
Put Christ in the middle of your situation, everything changes!
GOD CAN CHANGE YOUR SITUATION.
ONLINE: I want to Get GOOD first then come to church… NO you need to Get Here and Get God then you will become GOOD!
God gives hundreds of laws so we can remember the gift of Jesus!

3. The Manger is a reminder that He is our Righteousness.

Up to the point of Jesus all animals used in temple sacrifice were born in Bethlehem..
They would take the little lambs, and wrap them in swaddling clothes and the reason was because they had to be without spot and blemishes.
They would wrap them to protect them.
EVEN in Jesus’ birth, We see Jesus’ assignment which was to purchase your righteousness.
-I will be the “little Lamb” for your last sacrifice!
for all people!
Swaddling Clothes: represent the sacrifice to come.
2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
Isaiah 64:6 ESV
We have all become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment. We all fade like a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.
Jesus will take the swaddle cloth so I can take the dirty clothes..
He takes our Dirty Clothes (Sin) and gives us clean white garments….
Revelation 3:5 ESV
The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
I am thankful for our Righteousness…
SALVATION CALL: Jesus changes things
-Just like we spoke on the Manger…
-The Cross: Prior to Jesus, the cross was an instrument of torture, death! He changed that
Now a Tool of redemption, Sign of Salvation!
-HE WANTS TO CHANGE YOU!
