S-1> TEXT: Luke 2:1-20 KEY VERSE: Micah 5:2
TEXT: Luke 2:1-20
Luke 2:1–20 KJV 1900
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Beth-lehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. 8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, Good will toward men. 15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Beth-lehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
KEY VERSE: Micah 5:2
S-2-KV> Micah 5:2
Micah 5:2 KJV 1900
2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, Though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
INTRODUCTION:
The birth of Jesus was cause for great joy in and amongst the people of God who had been waiting so long for their Messiah to arrive.
S-3> During this time of year we reflect on this event with great joy.
The Arrival Of Joy
Arrival
(# 3)
S-4> This is the third in the series, “Arrival.”
S-4> This message is entitled, “The Arrival Of Joy.”
S-5> As we continue our spiritual journey to Bethlehem, we can celebrate God’s gift to the world, His Son.
Celebrating God’s promise fulfilled.
Celebrating the miracle birth of Jesus.
Celebrating the blessings God bestows.
S-6-CF> We can have joy now when we celebrate God’s gift for us.
S-7> 1) Jesus Is The Joy.
S-8> Luke 2:10
Luke 2:10 KJV 1900
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
The angel said, “Fear not.” Why? Because the shepherds were afraid.
S-9> Luke 2:8–9
Luke 2:8–9 KJV 1900
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
S-10> When God is doing something in the spiritual realm, when miracles are happening, or when the Glory of the Lord shines, often people are afraid.
People are afraid of things they do not understand, they are not expecting, or they are unfamiliar with.
S-11> As children of God, we do not need to be afraid when God moves. We need to remain humble, obedient, faithful, and full of faith and anticipation.
The angel’s message was one of “great joy.”
S-12> This message was not for just a few, but for the entire world.
The message you have today from God, recorded in the Bible is a message for the entire world.
S-13> We have the privilege of sharing this message.
S-14> When the shepherds returned from sharing the message, they were glorifying and praising God.
S-15> Luke 2:20
Luke 2:20 KJV 1900
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
S-7> 1) Jesus Is The Joy.
S-16> 2) Jesus Is The Message.
S-17> Luke 2:11
Luke 2:11 KJV 1900
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
We can get so busy with our “to do list” that we can forget the most important thing, especially this time of year.
S-18> We can spend so much time getting ready to celebrate the Saviour’s birth, that we can miss spending time with the One the celebration is for.
Martha did that, she was so busy making sure everything was right for the Saviour, that she missed sitting with Him and hearing the Words of life.
S-19> Luke 10:40–42
Luke 10:40–42 KJV 1900
40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. 41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: 42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
S-20> A miracle birth, a prophecy fulfilled, and a message to be told.
S-21-KV> Micah 5:2
Micah 5:2 KJV 1900
2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, Though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
What was your response when you first saw the Saviour?
S-22> What is your response now that you walk with and serve the Saviour?
Who did you tell after your encounter with the Saviour changed your life?
S-23> Who do you need to tell about your encounter with the Saviour?
S-24> Luke 2:17
Luke 2:17 KJV 1900
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
S-7> 1) Jesus Is The Joy.
S-16> 2) Jesus Is The Message.
S-25> 3) Jesus Is The Reason.
S-26> Luke 2:12
Luke 2:12 KJV 1900
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
S-27> Stop what you are doing and go find the Saviour.
No matter how strong your walk with the Saviour is, find the time to look for Him and get closer to Him and be in awe of Him.
S-28> Luke 2:15–16
Luke 2:15–16 KJV 1900
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Beth-lehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
S-29> Stop the mundane so you can experience the miraculous.
S-30> When you find the Saviour, rejoice.
S-31> The “good tidings of great joy” the angel spoke about is the reason for the Saviour, and the center of John 3:16.
S-32> John 3:16
John 3:16 KJV 1900
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
S-33> God’s gift is for the entire world.
S-34> Not everyone who is given a gift will receive it, and not everyone who hears the message of salvation will receive God’s gift.
S-35> But for those who do, the gift is life changing and priceless.
CONCLUSION:
S-36> The Savior, Christ the Lord, has been born. He has arrived.
S-37> Joy has arrived.
S-38> God gave His Son, the Son gave His life, what will you give the Saviour as you celebrate His birthday?
S-39-CV> Psalm 4:1–8
Psalm 4:1–8 KJV 1900
1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: Thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; Have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer. 2 O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? How long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah. 3 But know that the Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself: The Lord will hear when I call unto him. 4 Stand in awe, and sin not: Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. 5 Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And put your trust in the Lord. 6 There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? Lord, Lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. 7 Thou hast put gladness in my heart, More than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. 8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: For thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.
S-7> 1) Jesus Is The Joy.
S-16> 2) Jesus Is The Message.
S-25> 3) Jesus Is The Reason.
